“The persecution of #JulianAssange is an alarming affront to any reasonable notion of justice and media freedom. The Australian Government's kowtowing to Washington is equally appalling. Mr Assange is a hero, not a villain.” - @WilkieMP #WorldPressFreedomDay 🧵

To coincide with World Press Freedom Day, Julian Assange’s brother, Gabriel Shipton will deliver a global petition signed by 700,000 people to the independent Member for Clarke, Andrew Wilkie at Parliament House Gardens, Hobart.

Advocates for Mr Assange are deeply concerned for his safety and wellbeing after a UK court last week approved his extradition to the US, where he faces a potential 175-year jail sentence.
Mr Assange’s family is rallying Julian’s national support network, to demonstrate that Australians want the government to help bring him home. The petition delivery is part of multiple events across the continent including rallies at British consulates.

Gabriel Shipton, Julian Assange's brother:

“Hundreds of thousands of Australians want Julian to return home. Currently, all that stands in between Julian coming home or being sent to the USA to face 175 years in prison is UK Home Secretary Priti Patel. But the Australian Government has the power to intervene to free Julian. The major parties must listen to Australians and pick up the phone to bring Julian home.”
