Our GP committee has passed a motion stating the role of Physician Associates in general practice is fundamentally unsafe. They are calling for an immediate stop to PAs managing undifferentiated patients with a longer term phasing out of the role entirely.

We represent GPs across the UK - @TheBMA
- The decision to delay follow-up dose of Pfizer vaccine is grossly unfair to thousands of at-risk patients in England, as appointments are rescheduled. It will have a terrible emotional impact on many patients. Our chair @rvautrey has issued a response (THREAD) 1/7
- Replying to @BMA_GPThe Health Secretary also claimed he is working with the BMA – this is simply untrue. Our letters, outlining what we believe is needed to help GPs, have gone unanswered. We would very much welcome the opportunity to have frank discussions with him about the current GP crisis. 3/5
- We have overwhelmingly voted to reject the Government and NHS England’s 2024/25 GP contract changes. More than 19,000 GPs and GP Registrars took part in the BMA’s referendum, with over 99% voting ‘no’. Our message can't be any clearer. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/… @doctor_katie
00:00 - Sajid Javid told parliament today that GPs must ‘start operating in the way they did before the pandemic and offering face-to-face appointments to everyone who would like one', and that 'more GPs should be offering face-to-face access and we intend to do a lot more about it' 1/5
- Doctors from around the country have supported a motion calling for the freedom for GP practices to employ whoever they need to. And expressing support for GP industrial action. Watch more from @doctor_katie at #ARM2024 And vote YES in the ballot today: bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/…
00:00 - Replying to @BMA_GPComments like this show how far removed he is from the reality of what is happening in GP – as well as highlighting a lack of agreement within Government; the PM says the pandemic is ‘far from over’ while the SoS claims ‘life is starting to return almost to completely normal’ 2/5
- For two months now, we've been unable to get a face-to-face appointment with @sajidjavid to discuss the extreme and unprecedented pressure that primary care is under. GPs need his urgent support to meet increased demand #ProtectGP #SupportYourSurgery
- BREAKING: We’re extremely concerned to learn that up to 48,500 of our patients have not received their cervical cancer screening information due to a Capita system error. We’ve written to @NHSEngland to call for Capita to be stripped of the contract
- Replying to @BMA_GPTo suggest a return to a pre-pandemic way of working is as impractical as it is unworkable for GPs. They need to see patients as safely as possible, often in premises unfit to do so and without anywhere near enough staff 4/5
- Replying to @BMA_GPOur #SupportYourSurgery petition is calling for the support and resource from Government that GPs need to address the huge waiting lists. Add your name and share to support our call 👇👇👇 e-activist.com/page/88027/pet… 5/5
- GPC England has spoken: the current 24-25 contract offer is woefully inadequate and puts patients and staffing levels at risk. Watch the video update from @doctor_katie on our next steps, and why GPs should join the BMA to ensure you have your say. bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…
00:00 - 'Where we need a doctor, fund a doctor' @DrPhilBanfield spoke up for GPs in his opening speech at #ARM2024 'With record demand on GPs its been an act of vandalism to plunge general practice into such dire straits.' Read the full speech 👇 bma.org.uk/what-we-do/ann…
00:00 - “Let’s focus on general practice. It used to be the jewel in the crown of the NHS and we’ve lost 2,000 GPs in the last 10 years….yet we’ve got GPs at home who can’t find work and that’s because the funding is inadequate.” @DavidGWrigley on @SkyNews
