i once met this girl who followed her heart so strongly i was smitten
i didn’t want to be with her. i wanted to be her
it was like she had access to the keys that said “you are real, your emotions are real”
i'd vaguely heard about the US election in 2000 actually being "stolen" and i looked it up and it seems consensus is
- the entire US election came down to florida
- the difference in votes was <0.1%, not statistically significant
- polling machine had hardware issues way higher
Google is cool and all, but what Red Bull does with all their extra cash flow— all the wild, wacky extreme sports things no humans would have any business doing otherwise — that is a public service
period reminder to NOT donate to wikipedia
the ads deceive people into thinking wikipedia is under financial distress (it's not) and that donations go towards keeping the site running (they don't)
they borrow on the goodwill of wikipedia to fund a runaway NGO and its advocacy
modernity tells us kids are a luxury. dating is a luxury. relationality is luxury. you have the earn it. the individual has to earn. once they are rich, hot, smart, mature enough, they won't harm their partner. the poor, ugly, and god forbid "codependent" should stay home
my hot take is i don’t think anybody should be dating until their shit is together. eating healthy, working out regularly, having a morning routine, a spiritual practice, a therapist, financial discipline. things like that have to come first.
my parents have a kind of praxis where they approach chores or labour as having near-zero cost; time will pass anyway so you mightas well spend it improving your dinner, your home, your life. I respect it a lot; it inspires me. this week I will try to make this attitude my own.
i live on the cycles of the moon, but also—i have the stolen light of the moon shining in my pocket at all times: it’s my smartphone flashlight. like prometheus stole fire, my phone can light the way with glarish white light anytime
tl;dr: the 2000 election was, for some definition of the word, "stolen" and bush's party controlled the florida executive, supreme court, etc. in partisan, sometimes illegal ways, forced the result against the will of the people
one of the hottest, richest girls i was ever with kind of broke my brain in how she related to privilege
to her, it wasn't something to be ashamed about, or performatively guilty for. it was a gift made to her life, and she saw to it that it spread
what strikes me is gore did eventually concede, and life went on. the US remained politically stable. international capital didn't get nervous. life went on
