- It’s worth remembering that no teacher has ever been trained to deliver lessons online. It’s incredibly hard. No Ofsted inspector has ever done it. I’ve never done it and wouldn’t know how. Support our teachers @GavinWilliamson as they get through the pandemic. Be grateful.
- This is fine journalism. Summing it up perfectly. @Ofstednews
- Of course, the real unsung heroes in our schools are the teaching assistants and support staff who have had to step up big time. Many of these are based in schools supporting vulnerable pupils and families so that teachers can deliver remote lessons. Let’s not forget this. 👏🏻
- Are we sending in govt inspectors to scrutinise the work of nurses, GPs, surgeons, scientists, firefighters, MPs, police officers etc at the moment? Or are we accepting that they have enough on their plate dealing with a pandemic and need to be left to get on with it?
- I’ve got 3 kids. I’m a trained teacher. I see them every day. 2 of them have GCSEs and A-levels in a few weeks. I have no idea at all what progress they are making. Yet Ofsted inspectors can do it in half a day for hundreds of kids. Wow. That’s talent.
- I tell of a time in my first book of a pupil who I suggested the @Ofstednews HMI talk to as she’s really good at writing. He did and was not impressed. The piece the child had shared won a creative writing competition judged by @MichaelRosenYes. Confirmation bias in action.
- I’ve spoken to too many primary heads this week who have all but given up on their school improvement plan and professional development meetings. Schools are still struggling to operate. Covid is rife. Schools are nowhere near normal.
- Nick Gibb: I met with some headteachers yesterday and they were very supportive of what we are doing. Nick, you’re lying. #BBCBreakfast
- What I find most galling about those schools getting inspected this week is the expectation of headteachers being on call during their holidays to deal with the fact check, draft report and possible appeals. So much for wellbeing and caring one jot about family holidays.
- My eldest gets his A-levels in the morning. 2660 school days and it all comes down to this. I’ll be gutted for him if he doesn’t get what he wants. But who he’s turned out to be is by far worth more than any test, exam or assessment. Thank you, teachers, every single one of you.
- To force primary schools to open for one day by @GavinWilliamson and then lock them down the next by @BorisJohnson will be remembered as one of *the* most diabolical political decisions ever. Absolutely shameful.
