Thank you @curatorian for making my Easter and confirming that this is my grandfather, Claude Lapsley, a chaplain in the 8th Army. I hardly remember him, but knew he was Anzio and something in his bearing in this film recalled my late father. @I_W_M @ArmyChaplaincy
Easter Sunday, 1944 - in Italy, in the Anzio beachhead, troops of the Royal Army Service Corps - now @UKArmyLogistics - serving with 1st Division, attend a church service. @I_W_M AYY 702/5-6 / iwm.org.uk/collections/it…

I experienced 9/11 in Paris. I use this image as my twitter backdrop because, for all our differences, I formed the view then that the bond between our 3 great democracies was, as it has been for over a century, an essential force for good in the world. Still do. 🇺🇸 🇫🇷 🇬🇧

Every so often a career in public service gets you down for one reason or another. Then you look at these two people, remember what a privilege it is, and ask what it is you can do better tomorrow.
Arise, Captain Sir Thomas Moore! Today The Queen conferred the Honour of Knighthood on @captaintommoore at an Investiture at #WindsorCastle.

Sorry to be losing John Rood as my US opposite number. He has been a good friend to 🇬🇧🇺🇸defence links and to @NATO. He helped clear the way for some great bilateral work on carriers and next generation technologies. It all goes on of course, but thanks John and all the best.

Last email sent. Armagnac open. I’m watching Die Hard II.

Autism made Nick the highly effective military leader he is. Dyslexia made me the diplomat/policy official I am. Understanding and appreciating neurodiversity is moving fast in @DefenceHQ right now. About time.
Excl: Second Sea Lord reveals for the first time he has autism. "I have a brain that is wired differently. It doesn’t mean that I am disabled, it doesn’t mean that I am odd, it doesn’t mean that I am in any way shape or form less capable" thetimes.co.uk/article/vice-a…

Back in Brussels for first time in 2 years. Doesn't seem to have changed much.

Tried an 0600 run. Like swimming in a hot bath. But good morning Washington.

Absorbing reactions to the #IntegratedReview. Some great insights. Some fair challenge. Some just saying usual stuff. But here’s to all those across Whitehall who put a huge amount of effort in and those external experts and allies who helped. The process of strategising matters.

We all love @HMSQNLZ. But today it was great to meet @SenNatRepQNLZ with the aircraft of @USMC VMFA-212 @845NAS @820NAS and of course @OC617Sqn. The aviation on #CSG21 is awesome. A step change from previous UK carrier groups and amazing level of 🇬🇧 🇺🇸integration

It was a privilege to serve both @jensstoltenberg and @SecGenNATO as NATO Secretary General. But yesterday it was my honour to hand over credentials as 🇬🇧Ambassador to NATO and to take over leadership of the great team at @UKNATO
