    1/4) I arrived in Galkacyo yesterday to spend time with my family in the last days of the Holy month of Ramadan. This evening, my family and I were having iftar hosted by Nabadon Yasin Abdisamad. We left our house on foot with four security guards and two plain clothes officers.

    I took my oath and was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs and IC. I officially assume my duties & will immediately begin to continue furthering Somalia’s FP interests on the global stage and at home. I thank the Speaker,Chief whip, colleagues and MPs to witness this occasion

    To those pushing UAE sponsored propaganda that Somalia began in 1960: no. Somali cities & sailors long predate modern flags. The Periplus lists Opone; Yaqut wrote on Zayla & Mogadishu; Ibn Battuta visited in 1331; Barbosa & Hamilton charted Brava, Merca, Zeila, Guardafui. 1/8

    Somalia’s resilience to terrorist attacks is increasing & the capacity of our security forces is strengthening. Today, the brave actions of the Somali Police Force intercepted this VBIED intended for Mogadishu. We are grateful for their professionalism, skills & quick action.

    The Federal Government of #Somalia strongly opposes the recent statement from the Executive Secretary of #IGAD, deeming it biased towards the #Ethiopian Government. We call on the Executive Secretary to immediately apologize, withdraw the statement and take appropriate action.
