Volunteer with Vancouver Coastal Health

Volunteers are essential to the quality care we provide at Vancouver Coastal Health. As a volunteer, you can make a difference while building new skills, exploring careers in health care, gaining experience for future employment or educational plans and meeting new people.

Volunteers are part of the patient experience across the Vancouver Coastal Health region, in areas like:

  • Information desk and wayfinding
  • Friendly visitor, music therapy and pet therapy
  • Inpatient and outpatient clinics support
  • Special events
  • Mental Health Program support

As a general rule, we ask volunteers to commit two to three hours per week for a minimum of six months. Depending on the site and the volunteer position you're most interested in, the suggested time commitment may be longer than six months.

To apply, contact the Volunteer Resources department below to apply in the area where you'd like to volunteer. The application process may take four to eight weeks and includes a Ministry of Justice criminal record check initiated by Vancouver Coastal Health. For accepted applicants, a personal interview, reference checks, orientation session, and training will follow.
