Google: It's Wrong & Bad To Tell Your Clients Not To Go HTTPS

Gary Illyes from Google said on Twitter this morning that any SEO "recommending against going HTTPS" is doing the wrong thing and not only are they technically wrong, they also "should feel bad," he said.

Here is the tweet from Gary:

That is a pretty bold statement to make from a Googler. It is the choice of the webmaster and the SEO to decide if they want to go HTTPS, mobile friendly, or change the fundamentals of their site. To say they are wrong for deciding against it is one thing, but to say they should feel bad is a pretty bold thing.

Of course, this is Gary talking from his own personal views - although now he is a very outspoken Google representative.

I am all for going HTTPS, I did it on this site and on my corporate site and I didn't see any drop in rankings or traffic.

In any event, we covered this topic a ton, you can see our coverage in the Google HTTPS tag here.

Are you one of the wrong and bad SEOs that have told your clients not to go HTTPS?
