The Napthens Foundation
Supporting the NSPCC to build a fairer future for all children
The Napthens Foundation was established in 2021 by the Napthens Group to give back to the communities we serve across the North West. In June 2025, we took an important step forward by focusing all our fundraising and volunteering efforts on a single cause: supporting the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).
This exclusive partnership reflects our deep commitment to social justice and widening participation in the legal sector. Through our support of the NSPCC’s wide-ranging work, including their efforts to prevent abuse through education, early intervention, and tailored support for parents and children (including programmes delivered directly in schools), the Napthens Foundation is helping to enable the proactive measures that break cycles of harm before they begin. The NSPCC’s work not only protects children but also empowers them, laying the foundation for a fairer society where every child, regardless of their start in life, has the opportunity to thrive and pursue careers in law and beyond.
Our Commitment
We’ve pledged to raise £7,000 over the course of the year to support the NSPCC’s vital work across the North West. But our support goes beyond fundraising. Every colleague at Napthens is encouraged to take part in volunteering opportunities that make a real difference, from sharing their professional skills to supporting young people directly.
Why the NSPCC?
The NSPCC’s mission to protect children and give them the best possible start in life aligns with our values of fairness, collaboration, and community impact. Together, we’re working to create a society where every child feels safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Our fundraising activities
To support our £7,000 fundraising target, Napthens colleagues are engaging in a variety of purposeful fundraising activities that align with our values and team spirit. These initiatives are thoughtfully planned to complement our day-to-day work while making a meaningful impact. Recent highlights include the Morecambe Bay walk, which raised £600, and a fantastic effort by our trainees, who completed the 21-mile Preston Guild Wheel circular walk, raising an impressive £1,850. These events not only generate vital funds for the NSPCC but also strengthen our shared commitment to creating a safer, fairer future for children.
Previous fundraising activities
Our colleague, Yvonne Howe, raised money for Cancer Research through her completion of the Race for Life Pretty Muddy.
Yvonne and her team, climbed, crawled and slid their way around the 5km course, raising £385, with Yvonne’s sponsorship totalling £135.
The Burnley Football Club’s School’s Mental Wellbeing Project received £1,000 when Oli McCann hit the stage for The Great Chamber Sing Off, organised by the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.
The project employs a team of mental wellbeing workers who are placed in schools across the local area to provide an early intervention to support students who are struggling with mental health issues and also help raise awareness of mental health within schools.
Two of Napthens’ talented trainee solicitors, Shannon Adamson and Charlotte Senior, took part in a frivolous and innovative charity event in support of St Mary’s Hospice in Cumbria.
The event, a light-hearted pantomime-style courtroom trial, raised £3,000. This helps with the maintenance of various services offered by the hospice to provide those affected by illness with expert care and compassion.
A team from our Southport office supported a local charity’s tenth anniversary by attending an event last weekend. The Community Link Foundation has raised more than £250,000 to support local families, sports teams and community groups.
Blue Skies, the charity for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, held their first memory walk this month, which was sponsored by Napthens. The community completed a three-mile walk in memory of those the community have lost, raising almost £2,000. All the money raised goes towards enhancing patient care across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.
We have also raised over £3,000 for Lupus UK, with our team tackling the Chorley Three Peaks Challenge to honour a colleague and friend. This donation went towards vital work, funding research and supporting those impacted by Lupus.
Colleagues from our Kendal office participated in the Cumbria Community Foundation’s Virtual Coast to Coast Corporate Challenge 2024. Headed by Yasmin Blamire, the inspirational Napthens team completed the St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay route, virtually.
They completed the 171.3 mile trek by walking, swimming using an exercise bike and any other form of exercise, provided that they recorded the miles travelled each day.
Cumbria Community Foundation (CCF) is a charity that is dedicated to supporting the community in Cumbria. CCF assists the work of charities and community organisations as well as supporting individuals in the local area.
We have also donated £1,000 to charities selected by our own colleagues. The charities were: Homeless Hounds, North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA), Williams Syndrome Foundation, PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide and Milly’s Smiles.
At Christmas, we successfully delivered more than 100 toys to Swanside Community Centre and Jacks House, Manchester.
To celebrate Black History Month, our colleagues baked various Jamaican cakes, such as ginger and coconut cakes, to pay homage to the Windrush generations’ contribution to the local community. All sales went to the Napthens Charity Foundation to support local charities.
Our annual charity clay shoot raised £7,000 for Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone, aiding the continuous support for young people through funding a safe and engaging environment, where they can develop new skills, build confidence, and explore their potential.
Testimonials
Vikki Pattinson, from the Stroke Association:
“We’re always grateful to people like Oli who put themselves out to support others.
“The money he’s raised will help us continue pioneering research to save lives and help stroke survivors to make the best possible recovery and adjust to life after stroke.
“It will also deliver specialist support services and a helpline to ensure stroke survivors and their loved ones get the support they need.”
Gary Robinson, CEO of the official charity of Blackburn Rovers Football Club:
“First of all, we would like to thank Oli for his outstanding effort by completing a marathon swim in Lake Windermere.
“Oli’s fundraising will help support the important work we do within our local community and has helped with our delivery in Apple Trees, Blackburn, a centre which provides short breaks for children up to the age of 18 with disabilities.
“It will help us continue to support the fantastic work that Apples Trees and their people do on a daily basis.
“Our qualified coaches deliver engaging multi-sports sessions focused on the specific needs of the children.
“In addition, our Men in Sheds participants also visit Apples Trees and they help tend to the gardens in order for the children to enjoy the great facilities Apple Trees have at their disposal.
“We are thankful Oli has shown his support for Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.”
Jo Margerison (governor) Fulwood & Cadley Primary School:
“The MyHappyMinds project has started to make a real difference in empowering the children and deepening their understanding of mental health.

Mr B Corlett, Class 10 Teacher at Fulwood & Cadley Primary School:
“I would like to say a massive thank you to Napthens Solicitors for their generosity in helping us to fund MyHappyMinds.
“The scheme has been tremendous in supporting the children’s mental health but we look forward to embedding MyHappyMinds even further into our school ethos.
“The children are more considerate and mindful of one another as they understand more about how the brain works.
“In addition, they understand more about themselves as the MyHappyMind equips them with the necessary tools.”
