Dane Knecht posted thisI won’t mince words: earlier today we failed our customers and the broader Internet when a problem in Cloudflare’s network impacted large amounts of traffic that rely on us. The sites, businesses, and organizations that rely on Cloudflare depend on us being available and I apologize for the impact that we caused. Transparency about what happened matters, and we plan to share a breakdown with more details in a few hours. In short, the root cause of the outage was a configuration file that is automatically generated to manage threat traffic. The file grew beyond an expected size of entries and triggered a crash in the software system that handles traffic for a number of Cloudflare's services. The Cloudflare team was able to diagnose the issue and revert to a previous version of the file which restored services as of 14:30 UTC. There is no evidence of an attack or malicious activity causing the issue. That issue, impact it caused, and time to resolution is unacceptable. Work is already underway to make sure it does not happen again, but I know it caused real pain today. The trust our customers place in us is what we value the most and we are going to do what it takes to earn that back.

It's radically simple philosophy that has guided myself, Stephanie Cohen, Dane Knecht and many others at Cloudflare: you should get to decide how your content and data is used for commercial purposes when you put it online. That's why we, from the beginning, have given users the ability to choose for themselves. I love watching the many different markets, interactions, and experiments flourish.

Awesome conversation with Dane Knecht about building AI infrastructure before it was cool. 🌎 Dane enlightened me on Cloudflare’s extraordinary trajectory and reach. We talked about the geography of datacenters to meet markets and end user requirements, and the evolving landscape of financing to deliver compute and platform services at scale. 🚀 We also discussed evolving needs and demands on the compute platform leaning into AI, the role of accelerators in future datacenter infrastructure, and the specific advantages of Cerebras’ wafer-scale systems for emergent fast inference use cases e.g. in voice, reasoning, agents. 🤓 Clearly, we had a pretty good time. Stay tuned for more. 🙏 Thanks also to John Werner and the whole IIA event team. A standout program in an incredible setting. I look forward to doing more together.

Dane Knecht liked thisDane Knecht liked thisI’m incredibly honored to once again represent Cloudflare at the World Economic Forum in Davos — and I’m increasingly struck by how coming back each year compounds the relationships, perspectives, and impact of the experience. Davos has a way of reminding you that some of the most meaningful interactions and relationship-building happen outside formal sessions and meeting rooms — walking down the Promenade and finding myself in an unexpected and insightful conversation on AI, chatting with someone after a panel at Cloudflare House that turns into a thoughtful exchange about what’s coming next in finance and technology, or belting out singalongs late into the night at Barry’s Piano Bar. As a native Coloradan, I’m particularly proud of how Cloudflare is bringing skiing back to Davos in partnership with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, with the help of Olympic and World Cup legends Bode Miller, Picabo Street, Daron Rahlves, Steven Nyman, Tommy Ford, and Sam Macuga. Their reflections on preparation, resilience, and performance under pressure added a unique dimension to the dialogue this week — both on and off the slopes. (A special shoutout to Vidal Schertenleib and the team at Davos Klosters Bergbahnen AG for their hospitality.) Regardless of the venue, much of the dialogue this year echoed the work we do every day at Cloudflare: helping build a faster, more secure, and more reliable Internet that enables innovation for everyone, everywhere. I was particularly energized by how often Cloudflare’s work came up so naturally in conversations about AI and the future business model of the Internet. Being part of this team — and representing Cloudflare in conversations like these — is something I don’t take lightly. Thank you to Matthew Prince, Michelle Zatlyn, Stephanie Cohen, and the broader Cloudflare team for the leadership, trust, and partnership that make moments like these possible. And to everyone I had the chance to connect with this week: Thank you for the ideas, perspectives, and energy, and I look forward to continuing the dialogue.

(He's the only sitting president to make the journey to Davos since Bill Clinton in 2000, and he has attended multiple times.) I was down the street at one of the many corporate popups that line the Promenade in Davos, and the room of about 75 was dead silent as they watched the speech — with exceptions for nervous laughter at Greenland-related lines like, "We want a piece of ice for world protection." Meanwhile, in the long shadow of the president, the A.I. train chugs on through the Swiss Alps. In this video, I share some insights and eye-raising stats from a talk I moderated last night with Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince and CTO Dane Knecht, at a dinner Fast Company hosted in partnership with BairesDev.
