Asked yesterday by a colleague: “Why did you folks just release IX-API v2.7.1? Weren’t you working full steam ahead on version 3?” That’s a perfectly fair question! 🧐 ➡️ IX-API — the open standard for Interconnection Services — continues to evolve over time. We need to support new use cases, enhance existing solutions, and fix the occasional tricky bug that slips through QA. With version 1 of the standard already scheduled for deprecation on July 1st, 2026, but version 3 still under development, the latest, newest supported version remains 👉👉👉 v2.7. Regardless of the resources it requires, we’ll continue to support and improve the v2.x line for a while. Even once v3 is ready, migration will take effort from clients — and not everyone can make that transition overnight! It’s a bit like what has also happened this week with Windows 10: even though Windows 11 has been out for some time, not everyone can migrate right away or at all. Microsoft has therefore introduced an Extended Security Updates program to continue supporting Windows 10 for another year — a very sensible decision for the good of the entire internet! 🏅 ✅ But I digress. Two of AWS’ Sr. Principal Engineers, Nicholas Matsakis and Marc Bowes, take us inside the development of Aurora DSQL in a fascinating new blog. The post shows how the team scaled write operations without two-phase commit, overcame garbage collection hurdles, and ultimately embraced Rust for both data and control planes. What I find particularly interesting is how the team's journey with Rust evolved. They started cautiously, using it for a single component, and ended up rewriting almost everything in Rust. It's a reminder that sometimes the hard choices - like adopting a new language - can unlock tremendous value. The full post is well worth your time. The AI-Ready Cable Landing Station is Coming New Jersey colocation provider NJFX has announced an expansion that will enable it to house liquid-cooled GPU clusters at its subsea cable landing station in Wall Township, N.J. NJFX CEO Gil Santaliz sees use cases for strategic AI deployments focused on network security and data sovereignty. "A cable landing station is the first and last stop in a continent,” said Santaliz. "Some companies don’t want specific data to leave the country.” The NJFX campus hosts four subsea cables linking North America to Europe and South America, with 35 active network operators on-site.
