For More Information About Our Services:

Welcome to Interim, Inc.

Mental health services at Interim, Inc. focus on recovery, dignity, and community integration. We are the only agency in Monterey County that provides mental health treatment, affordable housing, residential treatment, social support, homeless outreach and support, and supported education and employment services for adults who have serious mental illnesses.

Our mission is to provide services and affordable housing supporting members of our community with mental illness in building productive and satisfying lives.

Housing, Healing, Hope:
The Path to Mental Health

Interim was founded in 1975 by mental health professionals, community members, and client families who saw a need for community-based alternatives to institutional care for people with psychiatric disabilities.

The agency’s services provide a bridge from institutionalization or homelessness to independent living.  With a strong continuum of supportive services and housing, those who are homeless are more likely to remain successfully housed once they have been moved off the street, and those at-risk of homelessness are less likely to fall into homelessness. The incidence of, and need for, costly inpatient psychiatric hospital care is greatly reduced.

Interim is a member of the California Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies (CASRA) and the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CCCBHA).

Our programs use evidence-based practices including Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP), Seeking Safety, and peer support.

In addition, multiple Interim programs/facilities operated by Interim undergo a rigorous  annual review process to attain accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Interim, Inc. CARF Accredited Programs/Facilities:

  • Administrative Offices
  • Manzanita Salinas & Manzanita Monterey – Crisis Residential Treatment Program
  • Supported Employment Services (SEES) – Dept of Rehabilitation Coop
  • Choices Day Treatment Intensive – Partial Hospitalization Program
  • The Academy – Intensive Outpatient Program
  • Keep It Real – Outpatient Program

CARF is an independent, nonprofit organization that accredits health and human services providers worldwide. Their accreditation process spans a wide range of services, including behavioral health, aging services, employment and community support, and medical rehabilitation. Similar to how the Joint Commission evaluates hospitals, CARF accreditation signifies a commitment to excellence in care.

To achieve accreditation, organizations must undergo a rigorous evaluation process that includes both internal assessments and an in-depth onsite survey conducted by expert practitioners selected by CARF. These surveys assess adherence to more than 1,500 internationally recognized standards designed to ensure person-centered, outcome-driven services.

Unlike basic licensure, CARF accreditation is a voluntary process—one that reflects a provider’s dedication to continuous quality improvement and service excellence. Earning this distinction demonstrates that a provider meets the highest benchmarks in the industry, often seen as the “gold standard” of care.
