in High demand

The demand for skilled and trained electricians is higher than ever. With older generations retiring and misconceptions about college being the only path to success, many miss out on the opportunity to build a stable, middle-class lifestyle without the burden of student debt.

Before burdening yourself with college debt or accepting a job you won’t love, take a moment to explore what IBEW Local 1253 has to offer. Whether you’re new to the electrical industry or currently working for a non-union shop, IBEW Local 1253 is looking for you.

As an apprentice, you’ll earn a livable wage while learning the trade. Plus, you’ll gain immediate access to excellent health insurance and retirement benefits, offering a total package that surpasses most non-union contractors.

Apprenticeship is a proven path to education and success, trusted by the building trades for nearly a century. It provides a livable wage that grows as you gain experience, setting you up for a rewarding career.

The men and women who complete an IBEW Registered Apprenticeship Program top out or graduate as journeymen, which means they are capable of performing all tasks associated with the trade under minimal supervision.

Earn while you learn

The Augusta Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) follows the “Earn while you Learn” model, which allows apprentices to learn the electrical trade while working in the field and earning a paycheck.

Apprentices gain hands-on experience working for the Local’s signatory contractors alongside skilled journeymen. These experienced professionals not only teach apprentices valuable trade skills but also show them how to work efficiently, and safely and deliver high-quality craftsmanship done right the first time.

In addition to on-the-job training, apprentices receive four or five years of tuition-free classroom instruction (depending on your trade). Led by accredited professionals with years of trade experience, these classes prepare the next generation of IBEW members for success.

The benefits of joining an apprenticeship are extensive. Apprentices earn a livable wage from day one and receive scheduled pay increases as they advance in the program and enhance their skills
