Late 2000, Foxite started as a small hobby project. The first version was written against foxisapi.dll, bringing Visual FoxPro functionality to the web in a way that felt exciting and experimental at the time.

In 2006, the site was rewritten in ASP.NET with a Visual FoxPro OLE DB backend. That architecture is still the foundation of the current version today. Since 2020, Foxite has been running stable on a Windows Server 2019 virtual machine with only 4 GB of RAM, a nice reminder that solid software does not always need massive infrastructure.

Over the years, the number of active members has naturally declined, as the use of Visual FoxPro itself has declined. But even today, Foxite still has an active community, albeit a smaller one. We are proud to see people continue to visit, contribute, help each other, and sometimes return after many years.

During these 25 years, we have also lost several valued and well-known members of the community, including Ken Murphy, Mike Gagnon, Koen Miller, Marcia Akins, Matt Slay, and Sytze de Boer. Let us remember them with gratitude and respect for everything they shared with us.

As another year wraps up, I just want to say thank you for keeping this community alive and ticking. The fact that people are still showing up, posting, helping each other, and caring about this place means a lot.

Next year, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of our community. That’s a pretty wild number, and it only happened because so many of you chose to stick around and contribute over the years. Whether you’ve been here since the early days or joined more recently, you’re part of what made that possible.

A quiet but important thank you goes to everyone who has donated. Your financial support helps cover the stuff that keeps the lights on and the server humming along. It’s genuinely appreciated.

My ISP is performing network maintenance today. As a result, my connection may go offline temporarily, and we might receive a new IP address. If that happens, I’ll update the DNS once the maintenance is complete. This maintenance was expected but was originally scheduled for next Friday. I’ll keep you updated on the progress.

Today, May 11, marks the 21 year anniversary of Foxite. Happy birthday everybody!

Please note that today I need to move the servers to new hardware due to some disk issues. This move allows me to upgrade the operating systems as well. I will also replace the firewall.
