Code the Change You Want to See
Ready to turn your big ideas into real-world impact? The Changemaker Future Tech LeadHERs Challenge invites high school girls to take part! Team up with your friends, dream up a tech solution to an issue that matters to you, and bring it to life through a coded app or website. Whether you’re tackling climate change, mental health, or community connection — this is your chance to create with purpose, lead with tech, and inspire change.
Finalists will pitch their innovative projects to business and tech professionals at a live pitch event in Miami, FL, and each winning team member will win a $1,000 scholarship! Additionally the registered coach for the top 3 teams will earn a $250 gift card and an additional $250 to the coach of the winning team.

Guidelines and Dates
👩‍💻 Who Can Participate
Eligibility: Female-identifying students in grades 9–12
Team Size: 1–5 students per team
Teams: Each student may join only one team
Coach: Each team must have one adult Coach (teacher or parent/guardian) listed to qualify
🎯 Competition Objective
Design and code a project that tackles or educates about an important community issue.
Your project must be:
Coded using a browser-based programming environment (so judges can view it via a shareable link)
Submitted as part of one team registration only
Accompanied by a video pitch (≤ 5 minutes) introducing your team and demo of your tech-based solution

📝 How to Register & Submit
Step 1: Team Registration
The Team Captain or Coach completes the Team Registration Form to create the team.
They will enter teammates’ email addresses to trigger invites for them to join the team.
Step 2: Join a Team
Each invited team member clicks “Join a Team” on the registration form to complete their registration.
Step 3: Project Submission
After registering, teams will receive a Submission Form link via email.
Only the Team Captain or Coach submits the final project on behalf of the team.
Step 4: Complete Your Entry
A complete entry includes:
Working link to view the coded project
Video presentation (max 5 minutes) introducing team members and demoing the project
Written responses to the following questions: 1) Describe the issue in detail (What’s the problem? Why is it meaningful?) 2) Explain what your project does. Who is your project for? Who’s the intended audience? 3) How will your project address or improve your community issue? 4) What did you learn while working on the project? 5) What was the biggest challenge of creating your project and what was the most rewarding part of your project?

Tip: The more creative and informative your video pitch, the better your chances of making it to the live round!
🏆 How to Win
Round 1: Judging & Deliberation
All entries are reviewed by a panel of judges.
Projects are scored on: Community Impact, Creativity, Complexity / Effort, Code Quality, Write-Up, Video Presentation
The Top 3 Teams will advance to the Live Pitch Round and be invited to an in-person rehearsal to prepare (optional).
Round 2: Live Pitch in Miami, FL.Â
Finalists present their projects live to a panel of female tech and business professionals.
Judges will ask questions and evaluate the final pitches to determine the winning team.
The winning team will be announced live at the Awards Ceremony.
Please note that finalist Changemaker teams outside South Florida must independently fundraise to cover all travel costs to Miami, FL in order to participate in the live pitch round.
🥇 Awards & Scholarships
$1,000 Scholarship
Each member of the winning team will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Members of all finalist teams will receive t-shirts and certificates for their participation. Additional gifts and field trips are possible dependent on event sponsors and partners.
Coach Awards
$250 gift card for all 3 finalist team coaches
+$250 bonus (total $500) for the winning team’s coach
👩‍🏫 Coach Role & Eligibility
A Coach is an adult (teacher, parent, counselor) who:
Serves as the main point of contact between Code/Art and the team
Provides guidance as students build and pitch their projects
Grants consent for participation (required if students are under 18)
⚙️ Project Guidelines Recap
- Must be coded in a browser-based environment
- Judges must have full access to both front-end and back-end code for review
- Can be an app or website (other mediums require prior approval)
- Only one entry per team
- Projects cannot be submitted to other Code/Art competitions
