Special April Announce! Read and Be Prepared for One of Us

Welcome to the Week Before Burning Flipside! 🔥😱🍌

*UPDATED 4/16/2026* The deadline to request a ticket during the secondary sale was April 15. Please be patient as we process your requests.

We hope you, your camp, your gear, and your (totally not a banana cult) minds are ready! Let’s go over some critical last-minute items the collective us need to know.

We Have a Map 🗺️

Check it out. Where are the theme camps? Is your friend’s registered art close by? For the love of all that is single-ply, where are the Porta Potties??? Pyropolis infrastructure answers start with the map. Kudos to Grandma (Rachel Lee) the mapping lead and Stephanie Pepas the art map lead for their hard work!

We Have a Survival Guide 📖

Read it for a ton of useful info. How much is a bag of ice this year? What do ya do if you car camp and the vehicle has a sentry recording system? What are the gate hours? How much water are we supposed to bring? Kudos to Princess Nip Queen the survival guide lead for another great edition!

We Have a Secondary Ticket Sale Until TOMORROW, 11:59pm April 15 🎟️

The secondary sale is still open. Submit your ticket requests via this form no later than 11:59pm Central Daylight Time, April 15 if you still need one. That’s also the deadline if you submitted a request and haven’t paid through the link. Check your spam! Go, go, go!

We Have Effigy Art Needs 🐟

Calling for members of the community to create art for the effigy! We’d love for YOU to create marine-themed 2d or 3d art for display in the effigy for all the community to enjoy! Submit this form by April 20 to get involved. ALSO, come to Church Night tomorrow, April 15 between 7pm-10pm for in-person arting. See the Facebook event for details and bring clean cans!

We Have Ignition Philter Grant Winners 🏆

Ignition Philter Funds Art is proud to present your 2026 grant winners! Thanks to your donations and the fantastic applications, IP is granting funds to 16 pieces that will become ONE OF US this April. You can always donate here to keep art dreams alive.

We Need a Lot More Volunteers 🤝

Guardians, parking, burn night perimeter, Cartelle, fire, PETS, and lots of other volunteers are really, really needed. We can’t be One of Us if only a few of us do the work. Sign up here! You can also sign up for many shifts onsite at the Volunteer Grove: the intersection of Easy St, Bananahard Blvd, and BejeezUs St.

Safety has a bunch of Critical Volunteer positions open and can sell tickets to participants who sign up for those shifts. Contact [email protected] for the latest info on which roles/shifts/etc. need love.

We Have a STicket Winner 🎨

A big thank you to the STicket contest winner, Jo Cleveland, for creating the winning ticket AND sticker art this year. We’re excited for everyone to see them in a week.❤️‍🔥

We Load-In April 18 and Load-Out May 2🚚

Load-In is Saturday, April 18 starting at the warehouse at 10am. Come help us get all the stuff to the land! If you can’t arrive in the morning, we’ll need help on the land in the early afternoon to unload. Watch these social medias for updates on where and when to meet: Facebook eventBlueSkyReddit, and Twixxer.

Load-Out is the reverse. On May 2, we’ll need hands at the land to help us load infrastructure onto the trucks, do MOOP sweeps, heal the burn scar, and a lot more. If you can’t be at the land in the morning, we’ll need help at the warehouse unloading. Watch the socials for updates and details.

We Are Us 🎙️

Be on the lookout for two Comms team volunteers who will be consensually taking photos and video of art and participants to share our stories. They must get your affirmative written consent to be recorded and if we use your footage, we’ll give you a chance to opt-out if you change your mind later in the default world. Bazooka and Hank look forward to chatting you up!

OK, now back to your normal pre-event panic. Welcome Home. 🫠

Exodus Volunteers Needed – Help Close Out the Event

As Burning Flipside comes to a close, Exodus are those volunteers there to help guide the community safely and smoothly off the land. Volunteers help ensure camps who need help packing out are identified, areas are MOOP-free, participants are departing in an orderly way or being given rides to parking. This is one of the final steps in honoring our commitment to Leave No Trace. Help wrap up the event by signing up for Exodus.

Burning Flipside Clean-Up: Help Us Leave the Land Better Than We Found It

Burning Flipside doesn’t end when the last art piece comes down. One of the most important parts of our culture is returning the land to a condition equal to, or better than, when we arrived. Saturday after the event, join other volunteers at the land to sweep for MOOP, remove remaining debris, and help restore burn scars or effigy remnants. It’s a chance for the community to close the loop on the event and make sure we honor the space that hosts us. If interested in helping as Clean-Up Lead this year, please reach out to [email protected].

COMMUNICATIONS

Recording Consent Reminder: If you must park at camp, turn off and cover your vehicle’s camera systems completely and disable sentry modes so participants aren’t recorded walking nearby. Artify your vehicle!  Also, don’t enable recording on your smart glasses and other wearable tech!  It’s just too hard to get consent from everyone around you.

Gate IT Volunteers Needed: Have solid networking skills? Want to help ensure the gate check-in process moves smoothly? Want to get to the land extra-early?  Contact [email protected] for an awesome volunteer opportunity. THANKS for sticking with it and reading through. As always, if you are interested in helping publish these, please let me know by replying here!

See you at the Flipside!

New Year’s Ticket and Ignition Philter Art Grants Announce!

Howdy to everyone after what was hopefully a lovely season of well-wishes, gatherings, and resolutions to help just one more person understand what MOOP is.  Burning Flipside happens April 23-27 and we have critical ticket information to share, so let’s get started.

The Main Ticket Sale is OPEN!!!  Hopefully you remember your Secure password.  You have three weeks from today to complain about the ticket window being too short and a complete surprise AGAIN.  That’s Monday, January 26th.  And, yes, we know FreezerBurn is in the middle.

[UPDATE: we extended the mailing deadline to Wednesday, January 28.]

NO PERSONAL CHECKS.  But last year’s credit card sale was so entertaining for me (y’all are a hoot and a half sending in money orders for your credit card purchases!).  Let’s try to get it sorted this year a little bit better.

  1. ONLY send in Money Orders if you register for a mail in ticket.
  2. The actual credit card payment link will come some time in late February.
  3. No, you cannot donate to Ignition Philter through the credit card method…so do that here!
  4. No, you don’t need to mail in anything for credit card tickets, but the ticket opening team does enjoy decorated surprises for the pure heck of it.

USPS has officially confirmed that they don’t care about putting timely postmarks on envelopes, so get the overworked clerks to hand-stamp them in that last week, please and thank you!  Think of your envelope decorations as a stress relief for everyone in each step of the pipeline.

Login to Secure and get started, folks. Full details here and a FAQ here. When in doubt, contact the ticket lead here. I love answering questions!

And don’t forget to support Flipside art by donating to Ignition Philter!

-Ste. Michelle, Patron Saint of Ticket Complaints

Art Grants Are Now Open!
Yeah, all that Ignition Philter action has to go somewhere and do something. Apply for funding assistance to bring your art to Flipside, through Ignition Philter. Applications close January 18th, so put on your oddly-warm weather thinking caps.

One of Us is Happening!

Time to think about where you want to volunteer this year.  Which theme camp idea best throws a banana into the works.  What kinda events will make newbie and veteran eyes sparkle.  It’s time to build your community, Flipside. ❤️‍🔥

Dispatches from Town Hall (and beyond)

Every fall we get together to launch our new Flipside year with Fall Town Hall. Our annual inaugural event came and went on the hot afternoon of September 27th. Announcements were made, fun was had, and a theme was decided! The whole afternoon was absolutely bananas! We just keep rolling that rock up the hill every year and this year will be no exception. We will gather between April 23–27, 2026, each and every One of Us!*

*The theme for Burning Flipside 2026 is “One of Us!” Incidentally, if you say it really fast, it sounds just like “Wanna Fuss!”

Upcoming Opportunities for Participation

Now through November 29th: Submit your awesome Effigy proposal! The DSC (DaFT Selection Committee) is now accepting effigy proposals for this year’s event! Whether it’s symbolic, sculptural, surreal, or downright strange, we want to see your creative ideas for what will be Flipside’s glorious centerpiece. The DSC is available to help guide you through the process, provide feedback, and help transform your napkin sketch into a flammable wooden reality. Submit a concept, sketch, or detailed plan! Deadline: 11/29 (Saturday after Thanksgiving)

More details are available at https://www.burningflipside.com/event/effigy/proposal. This is your chance to shape the spirit of Flipside. Let it burn.

October 12 – December 7, December 10: Sticket contest: What’s a sticket? It’s a portmanteau! What’s a portmanteau? It’s when you squish two words together, like Sticker, and Ticket! It’s also the only way to get a free ticket to Burning Flipside! Want to create the art that welcomes everyone to Burning Flipside! Want your creative genius memorialized on water bottles and in scrapbooks? Then you may want to submit a design to our Sticket contest! It’s never too early to start. In-person voting on the designs will be on December 10 at Church Night with some kind of an online method to participate. Design and submission guidelines can be found here: here.

November 9-10 and 15-16: Burning Flipside is hosting a spot at the Austin Studio Tour! While the time to sign up as an artist has passed, the opportunity to volunteer has not! We need lots of help! August Announce: Town Hall, Event Dates and more

Summer ends soon, and we all know what’s next! Planning for Flipside! And that planning starts with Town Hall! Once you’ve made it home, washed off the dust, or just washed off the summer sweat wherever you are, and rested up, you may be wondering what’s next. Well, Burning Flipside would like to make it to your dance card, and here is where that starts.

SAVE THE DATE! BURNING FLIPSIDE: April 23 – 27, 2026!

Fall Town Hall on September 27! Launch the Flipside year by coming out to Lloyd the Warehouse to catch up on the latest news, catch up with friends, bubble with enthusiasm, and vote on the theme for Burning Flipside 2026! Tailgating and set-up start at noon. Come in costume, bring things to share! Remember, Lloyd is a leave-no-trace space. Pack out what you bring. There are no trashcans.

Flipside needs a theme! Themes have been called the most important least important way to participate. Love it, hate it, or approach with a searing indifference, we still need one. And that’s where you come in. Promote your themes at Town Hall AND entertain the masses with  the fun, fancy, or familiar. SUBMIT YOUR THEME suggestions here – log in required. There’s probably some sort of deadline.

Ignition Philter Fundraiser on September 20 Join Ignition Philter (the community-based art funding organization) for Inner Worlds: a night of immersive art, dancing to great dj’s, tasty bites and beverages, and so many more surprises!

Austin Studio Tour on November 8-9 & 15-16 It’s been a few years since we’ve done this, and we’re excited to bring it back. The Flipside Warehouse will host a free to use space for our Community artists who wish to set up. Our non-profit, Catalyst Collective, will cover the listing cost for the warehouse to help our artists who would love to participate in the tour but haven’t found a space yet. If you want to set up at the warehouse for free as a participating artist, the deadline to apply with us is September 1, 2025.  Learn everything here

October Art Show – Degenerate Art on October 5th For no particular reason whatsoever, the theme for the 2025 Autumn Art Show @Lloyd will be Degenerate Art. Let’s lean into our Most Modern, weirdest, surrealist, and spectacularly strange. Make some art that leaves your mama wondering, “Who’s your DADA?” Out with the oldeau and in with the nouveau. Deco the halls and Bauhaus the Bassment. Make a lasting impression and express thyselves! It’s October 5th from 2-6pm at Lloyd the Warehouse, free and open for all ages. Learn more here and here.

New AFs for Art and Site-Ops We are excited to share that Rae Forster will be taking over the Art Area from Stephy Vyborny and Poolboy will be taking over the Site-Ops Area from Robin “Bossy Spice” McShaffry. The combined years of volunteer experience from our departing Area Facilitators is ridiculous, and we are looking forward to new things in these critical areas of Flipside. Contact the new AFs with any questions at [email protected] and [email protected]

Burning Man Learning Session Heads Up Coming back from Burning Man and want to decompress, share successes, and learn from any fails? Watch this space for an upcoming session at the warehouse!

Burning Flipside Instagram Goes Live in September We’re excited to announce that Flipside now has an official Instagram page! Follow along for community updates, event highlights, art, and stories that capture the spirit of our burn year-round. This will be a hub to share our culture, creativity, and connection with both seasoned burners and curious newcomers.
