Global Aid Network Canada is a Christian International Relief and Development non-profit organization that is focused on revealing hope by sharing God’s unconditional love and restoring life by demonstrating the gospel through compassionate action to those living in injustice, poverty, and crisis around the world.
HOPE International Development Agency is a collective of entrepreneurial and dedicated people who are responsive to the realities of overlooked families living in extreme poverty. Working in 16 countries – HOPE mobilizes resources with a focus on clean water, food security and livelihoods – together we equip and empower possibility for families through approaches that are resilient, community-led and sustainable.
Grassroots, community-based organizations are the heartbeat of HOPE and we keep them central to everything we do. Our local partners collaborate directly with program beneficiaries in the field to identify needs, develop solutions, shape initiatives and provide a framework to foster long-term sustainability and self-reliance.
Pebbles to Pearls Foundation supports grassroots initiatives that increase access to education for all with a focus on the education of girls and women. We currently have programs in India, Ghana and Zambia.
The programs we support address a vital and significant deficit in the basic needs of learners that prevent them from reaching their full capacity. We partner with local organizations that educate and serve everyone, empower women and girls and improve economic opportunity for all.
We are a volunteer run organization. This allows all funds received from supporters to be directed to our partner organizations. Administration costs are kept to a minimum and paid for by the board. Our vision is a world where universal education allows the individual to contribute fully to wellbeing and prosperity.
At Seva, we believe that everyone has the right to sight. Our mission is to restore sight and prevent blindness in low-and middle-income countries. Through our unique partnerships, Seva works to establish locally managed eye care programs that will continue to serve people and communities long after Seva’s involvement is complete.
With decades of experience working in some of the world’s poorest regions, we know that restoring a person’s sight and preventing blindness can relieve suffering, reduce poverty and transform lives. Our vision is a world in which no one is needlessly blind or visually impaired.
Susila Dharma Canada is a charitable, non-profit organization run by volunteers since its creation in 1986. We assist locally initiated development projects on four continents and facilitate Canadians who want to engage in improving conditions for humans and the planet. We are a member of Susila Dharma International Association.
We work globally for just and sustainable development, empowering individuals and communities to engage in positive human, social, environmental and economic change in areas such as education, health, life-skills, seniors care, and enterprise development. Through these projects we strive to create a sense of trust and hope worldwide.
The Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) believes in creating spaces to connect, inspire, and cultivate impact-driven communities to build a more sustainable, inclusive, and collaborative world. ORICE offers academic courses, co-curricular programs, and International Service Learning (ISL) opportunities to connect and collaborate with students, faculty and community organizations around the world.
Located at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, CAPI is a research centre focused research, education and community engagement in the Asia-Pacific. We facilitate international conferences, events, and research projects for faculty and area experts as well as experiential learning opportunities for students. Since its inception in 1988, CAPI acts as a vital link between UVic and the Asia–Pacific region, providing opportunities and initiatives that bring scholars and others together.
Universal access to quality, inclusive education is the foundation of a vibrant society. While universal access to schools has increased throughout East Africa, it does not guarantee access to quality education—one that cultivates a love of learning and effectively prepares young people for the challenges and opportunities ahead. An education that is dynamic, adaptive, locally relevant, and culturally appropriate requires a well-trained network of stakeholders. At Wellspring, we have spent almost 20 years in Rwanda providing grassroots training and mentoring to everyone involved in a child’s education ecosystem, as well as advocating for systemic change at the highest levels.
UNAC-V works to promote global awareness and further the work of the United Nations. We are one of the many national UN Association branches around the world connected through an international network. This network is called the World Federation of UN Associations, which was established in 1946. Our work is achieved through education and recognition programs, partnerships, and fundraising.
We aim to inform, inspire and engage people in Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland to accomplish the vital work of the United Nations. Under the umbrella of the Sustainable Development Goals, our public advocacy addresses poverty, gender inequities, human rights, cross-cultural understanding, environmental degradation and threats to peace and security.
Vivek Canada has been a registered Canadian non-profit since 2006. We work with families living in remote and disadvantaged regions of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve area of Uttar Pradesh, India to improve health, sanitation and education services.
Development and Peace – Caritas Canada addresses the root causes of poverty, oppression, and inequality by working with partners in the Global South and by mobilizing Canadians in the common struggle for justice and dignity. We champion women and social movements as key agents of lasting change.
Food for the Hungry (FH) Canada, part of the global FH family, is a Christian, non-profit organization dedicated to ending poverty worldwide. FH walks alongside vulnerable communities throughout the developing world as they strive toward sustainability.
Recognizing that each community faces unique challenges as well as advantages, FH is committed to an integrated, holistic approach to development including priorities such as education, health, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, and gender equality. FH believes in facilitating innovative, long-term solutions and providing everyone an opportunity to join in the pursuit of a poverty-free world. FH Canada currently partners with communities in Bangladesh, Burundi, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Rwanda, and Uganda.
GRAN is a national grassroots network of older women working together across Canada to influence national and global policy-makers. Our vision is a world where the human rights of older women, children and youth, and gender-diverse persons are recognized and protected so that they can achieve their full potential. Our passion for this vision is a deep concern for the well-being and human rights of grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa and the children and youth in their care, as well as those of marginalized women in communities of the Global South.
Impact Toolbox helps turn ideas and passion for social change into sustainable businesses for social good. They offer social entrepreneurship training programs to equity-deserving and emerging leaders worldwide, supporting them in creating lasting positive social change and sustainable impact-first businesses.
Impact Toolbox’s vision is to create a world led by competent social change leaders through the power of their innovative and entrepreneurial acumen. They believe that doing good in the world does not have to come at the expense of financial stability. That’s why they help social purpose leaders explore ways to generate income to sustain their work and themselves while growing their impact.
For over 35 years, Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) has been advancing the rule of law by increasing legal capability, strengthening justice systems and developing digital solutions in Canada and globally.
A leader in the justice sector, JES has implemented justice reform projects and provided training and technical assistance in over 25+ countries. JES currently has offices in Canada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras and Saint Lucia, and currently works in Dominica, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and theGrenadines. JES actively seeks to improve justice for all, especially women, girls, LGBTQI+ persons, Indigenous Peoples and vulnerable groups.
Niteo Africa is a Kelowna based registered charity dedicated to furthering child and family literacy through local and global partnerships We build capacity through training Literacy Leaders in Africa – teachers, high school students, community leaders, elders, and parents. We support literacy learning through open-sourced resources and intentionally build relationships between grassroots leaders and volunteers across the globe. Locally, we collect donations of gently used books to send to Uganda. We invest in newcomer and refugee families through our Story As Community Family Reading Program in Kelowna and Vernon.
Right to Learn Afghanistan, previously known as Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, exists to make the right to education a reality. Since 1998, they have supported human rights and education for Afghan girls and women, training 10,000 teachers, establishing 300 libraries and labs, and creating an online Afghan library with tens of thousands of monthly downloads. After Afghanistan’s 2021 education ban for women, Right to Learn Afghanistan adapted, providing free virtual courses and classrooms in partnership with Afghan women. Their transformative advocacy, humanitarian, and educational programs champion gender equity and the universal right to learn.
Simon Fraser University (SFU) International is the university’s hub for international relationships, knowledge and resources, enhancing and mobilizing the global reach of SFU’s teaching, research and community engagement. In service to SFU’s international engagement, SFU International facilitates international strategic direction and engagement in support of institutional priorities; builds, maintains and continually improves institutional partnerships, opportunities, and modalities; and provides service, support, tools and skill enhancement for faculties and units.
Universal Outreach is a humanitarian organization dedicated to providing quality educational opportunities and economic development initiatives in Liberia.
We provide academic programs and scholarships, market-driven skills training programs, entrepreneur mentoring and creative learning opportunities. Universal Outreach also focuses on income-generating through the development of niche industries. We invest in these two areas because we believe that educated, skilled people need vibrant economies to build the future they envision.
The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), a public university situated in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia on Sto:lo lands, envisions its role as a gathering place for learners, leaders, and seekers. Unique to BC, UFV offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Development Studies, and graduates of the program go on to critically engage in the global development, social justice, and sustainability sectors, locally and
internationally.
Also situated at UFV is the Centre for Justice, Equity, and Sustainable Action (JESA). JESA Associates collaborate with researchers, practitioners, and community groups, and hold events that address critical and decolonial development practices, humanitarianism, food security, sustainability, gender equality, global health, immigration and belonging, forced migration and refugee rights, Indigenous rights, child
and youth rights, and climate change and climate justice.
VIDEA strengthens the environment where youth and communities, globally, have access to the education, skills and support necessary to take feminist leadership in developing their own sustainable solutions to gender equality, environment, Indigenous and human rights violations and injustice. We strive to support and inspire others, especially Indigenous, and systemically underrepresented youth, to better understand global issues, and issues of oppression, discrimination, systemic sexism and colonialism, and to use their power and voice, towards more just communities. We are more than a feminist organisation, we are a women’s organisation.
