It’s Christmas.

It’s the season of HOPE, joy, love and peace and I had a few minutes to think and make a list of some of the Pros and Cons of publishing vs. self-publishing my novel.  I realize that people seem to think that finding a publisher who is willing to take the risk means that, no matter what, I should just bend over backwards to do what they want and shut up… however, it’s not that easy!

As an author for almost 20 year now that’s hard.  Why?  Because I do have an audience.  I have written books, articles, short stories, non-fiction books based on experiences and from what I have been told repeatedly by those who read my work is they just like how I tell the story… call it what you want… my voice, my style of writing, whatever.  They feel like they connect with me.

How do I change that?  Maybe other people don’t like the way I write but where do I draw the line?  A publisher may have no success or the novel could be a huge success for them.

But what about my integrity?  Staying true to the story that played out 72 years ago a mere 20 minutes from my house is important to me.  I realize that I have created fiction from a true story but I want as many of the facts to remain the same.  Yes, there was a couch in the kitchen because 70 years that was the main room of most homes because that’s where the heat source was!  I don’t care if that’s something that people wouldn’t get… learn!  Do some research on it!  Everyone has the entire history of the world at their fingertips!

Lastly is time.  I don’t have the time in my schedule to sit and rewrite the entire novel to suit what they want.  I just don’t!  If I didn’t work or I got paid to sit and be able to spend endless hours working on it, well, that would be one thing but I don’t so it would take me months!

So I have made a few corrections that were brought to my attention that are important facts that needed adjusting and I have, once more, uploaded the manuscript to Lulu and ordered a proof copy.  This time I will be pressing the accept button and within six weeks or so it will be available, in hard copy, on Amazon!

For those of you who have read it, I hope you are thrilled with my decision.  I just can’t turn my back on it!
