Tell us about a time when you felt out of place.

Hi friends and readers,

It was when I joined an organisation couple of years ago. It’s not a bad organisation per se, it is just how I feel when I joined a certain community in which I don’t feel I belong. I really felt out of place. What’s the reason?

First of all, the organisation are joined by people that I would consider quite religious and rightous. I feel out of place. I would not consider myself religious and I can be quite liberal in a sense, moderately. Whenever I’m there, I can’t be myself in a way. I felt restricted and it impacted my work quality.

Moreover, I can’t quite shake my anxiety while working there. They are good people, it is just my body is resisting so much being there. Never regretted my decision to leave. I’m more at peace somewhere else and that’s what matter the most.

WHERE THE SUN CAN’T FIND US – ALBUM BY SU SAN

Hi friends and readers!

I have good news! My favorite artist, Su San has released her first album WHERE THE SUN CAN’T FIND US! It is available on major music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube music and more.

I’ve featured Su San a couple of times here on her new songs and EP. Moreover, her music dominated my Spotify Wrapped in 2023. You can read all about it here. Being the Top 0.001% listeners really fires me up.

Su San is a KL-based artist and she is uplifting the dark-pop genre in music. Personally for me, her music is definitely enchanting with mesmerising mixed of sounds. Paired with her captivating vocal really feels like I’m bewitched to keep on listening to her.

In this new album, there are nine tracks listed below;

  1. UNDER MILK WOOD
  2. ONCE UPON ANOTHER TIME
  3. DIANNE/BETTY
  4. BAD DREAM
  5. IN MY HEAD
  6. SUMMER’S CORPSE BREATH
  7. CRUEL
  8. RUNAWAY
  9. THE SUN

My personal favorite would be CRUEL, IN MY HEAD, and BAD DREAM. I’ve been listening to her songs whenever I’m hiking. It gives a really dark ambience but enjoyable at the same time.

Now, I would like to invite you together to listen to her new album. You can listen to WHERE THE SUN CAN’T FIND US below:

It is hillarious to look back

Photo by Miriam Espacio on Pexels.com

It is hillarious to look back,
At the steps I have taken,
To see the distance,
To feel the memories,
Like breathing air,
Slow beating heart,
Breeze between the fingers,
Where terror lies beneath the calmness,
The scream, the tears,
The constant agony,
Over the things,
That I can never touch,
Or change ever again.

I am happy even if it’s not me

Photo by Claudia Schmalz on Pexels.com

I was surprised!
I was shocked!
But it was not grief or sadness,
That run through my mind,
It was happiness,
It was proud,
It was a sense of love,

When you said you are dating someone,
When you showed effort for someone,
When your face lights up when you talked about someone,
You look exactly like a woman in love,

To love doesn’t mean to have,
And I’ve learned that before,
My love for you is support and blessing,
I am happy even if it’s not me.

Is to live my life daily

I wish not to write much about pain,
But I take it daily like meds,
To keep me alive and sane,
Which I never knew life without it,

I do remember bits of joy,
Here and there like the twinkling stars at night,
Bright and fading out and out of reach,
While I am grounded on Earth,

So be it, so be it pain or relief,
One day at a time and repeat,
Another day will become yesterday,
And a day will never be the same one,

I choose to feel the pain today,
I can choose to feel happy,
The biggest lesson in life I will never forget,
Is to live my life daily.

For someone I will never have

They said attract, don’t chase,
So much loss in a phrase,
When two people attracted to each other,
One will eventually pursue the other,

It’s not about running all day long,
It’s that small steps to get along,
Like a simple ‘Good morning!’,
To make time for a simple evening,

It never works one way,
To stand still under the spotlight and stay,
Because without reciprocation,
There will never be a real connection,

Sometimes it is obvious,
It doesn’t worth the effort,
How can I pray to forget,
For someone I will never have.

Another tomorrow to live in fear

Photo by Damien Wright on Pexels.com

I am attracted to her,
I saw her strength,
I accepted her weaknesses,
Perfect in her own way,

My feeling grew,
And I wish she knew,
Like how my usual story goes,
The feels is mine and now in woes,

A sigh and another heartbreak,
A cry without a single tear,
Fallen myself into the abyssal crack,
Another tomorrow to live in fear.

For the chances I have given

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

I have fallen deep into the darkness,
Not a shine of light to save me,
In every second this heart of my beats,
Thousand needles plunged instantly,

Is this where I rest for eternity?
Even after I took my final breath?
How cruel is my destiny?
Alone and lonely until the end,

Take me now,
Take me away,
For I find no purpose,
For the chances I have given.

Ally’s Thoughts: How Do I Embody Malaysia MADANI: Jiwa Merdeka?

Photo by aboodi vesakaran on Pexels.com

Hey friends and readers! How are you? It is August and Malaysia will be celebrating its Independence Day or known as National Day on the 31st August every year. This year, Malaysian will be celebrating the 67th National Day! By now, it’s customary for me to write something about my beloved country. Before that, if you want to read what I wrote about last year, please click here.

The theme this year is Malaysia MADANI: Jiwa Merdeka. Malaysia MADANI is an acronym, in English it would be SCRIPT that stands for sustainability, care and compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity and trust. Jiwa Merdeka means Independent Soul or Free Soul. How do we truly embody this theme?

There will be two part for this post, the first one is how I would relate to the theme this year and the second part would be about how disappointed I am about the current situation from a normal citizen perspective on Malaysia’s current situation.

How do I embody Jiwa Merdeka?

What does it mean by having Jiwa Merdeka? What does merdeka mean to me? Of course, I can’t relate on the struggle and hardship during the times of colonization and occupation that happened in this land. Of course, it’s hard for me to understand the fight for independence made by our forefathers.

I believe that it’s the role that we play in bringing the country ahead is important. I think I said the same every year, it’s about embracing the diversity and uniqueness of Malaysia. Since I started hiking, I met with different people and made new friends. Being surrounded by different souls from different cultural background somewhat made me feel the ideal Malaysia. It widen my views and perspective as a Malaysian.

By embracing this diversity and uniqueness, I believe we are embodying the Jiwa Merdeka because that’s what we should be celebrating. Of course, this is just from a sociology point. When we truly celebrate it, there will be more unity and love between us and when we reach to that point, we all going to love Malaysia as a whole.

I really want to see that where I can go to the street and ask anyone if they love Malaysia or not. They will say ‘Yes, I love Malaysia!’ but not because of the food or sports. They will say they love Malaysia because it’s worth living here! They feel kindness and love for each other and are proud to be here.

What’s going on in Malaysia right now?

If you’re not reading the newspaper, especially in the politics section, you’re fine. But for someone who keeps on reading the news and stuff. It’s totally ridiculous! I feel sick reading about some politicians acting as the agent of discord and disharmony.

How so? If you read the news, it’s mostly about sensitive topics like the 3R (religion, royalty, religion), slanders, lack of accountability and to summarize, disgusting. For me, politics should focus on good governance of the country. In fact, I mentioned about the same issue last year, now Malaysia has a weak opposition! I need an opposition that can stand toe to toe with the government. I find that the opposition lacks character, leadership and decisiveness.

The more I talk about it, the more I find it rather appalling with the whole situation. I don’t want to continue further.

As a summary, I’m happy to live in Malaysia and experienced the wholesomeness of Malaysia. I wish more people would understand how it feels. I wish more Malaysians understand that moving ahead is more understanding and unity.

Ally’s Thoughts: What’s My Favorite Thing About Myself?

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

Hi friends and readers,

If someone asked me this question a couple of years back, I would most likely say none. I actually hated myself so much back then. But now, I don’t really hate myself that much. Nowadays I feel that no one else can stand by my side as much as myself. For now.

Going through certain phases and transitions, I learned a lot about myself. So, my favorite thing about myself is to have this strong resilience. To have self-awareness and always giving myself the chance helps me to keep on going. Even in the most difficult times, I’m still giving myself the patience and chances to power through. In a way, that’s how much I love myself.

Now, I want to give the same to others. To show them strength and give them support because I know there are others like me. Not all of them have the support system to help them go through the toughest challenges in their life. I want to help them to be aware that they have the biggest supporter they need, it’s themselves.

Yes, you read it right. The biggest supporter of your life is yourself because when you were going through so many challenges in your life, the closest one to you was yourself.
