Vertical scaling and bursting
Never lose visitors during traffic spikes. WP Cloud automatically scales resources up or down based on real-time demand. No manual intervention, no downtime, no overpaying for capacity you don’t need.
What is vertical scaling?
Vertical scaling means adding more power to your existing server (CPU, RAM) rather than spinning up additional servers, keeping your infrastructure simple while handling any load.
Key benefits of WP Cloud vertical scaling
Seamless performance
Handle increased traffic without site slowdowns. In contrast, with horizontal scaling, multiple servers can create latency and bottlenecks between nodes.
Automatic management
No manual intervention required during traffic spikes.
Cost optimization
Pay only for resources you actually use. Compared to horizontal scaling where you must pay for multiple full server instances, even when only partially utilized.
WordPress optimized
Specifically tuned for WordPress workloads and patterns.
Instant resource allocation
Advanced auto-scaling up to 110 CPU cores means resources are immediately available when needed, without waiting for manual provisioning or server restarts.
Traffic spike protection
Our platform automatically scales to meet your website’s demands, ensuring optimal performance for your clients’ visitors protecting against downtime during viral content or marketing campaigns.
How bursting works

Bursting as high traffic insurance
Bursting is WP Cloud’s implementation of automatic vertical scaling that temporarily increases your site’s resources during high-demand periods. Don’t let Black Friday sales, ad campaigns, viral social media posts, or product launches to go waste.

The bursting process
Our systems continuously monitor CPU usage, memory consumption, and response times. When resource utilization exceeds predefined thresholds, bursting is triggered. Additional CPU cores and RAM are instantly allocated to your site. Your site maintains optimal performance during the traffic spike. Resources return to baseline levels when demand decreases.

Burst triggers
Bursting activates when a site exceeds its default CPU (PHP worker) allocation and allows the site to leverage additional resources to scale up to meet demand. This may occur during significant traffic spikes, unexpected changes in resource utilization, or other high-load scenarios. Bursting allows a site to avoid downtime or service disruptions by tapping into available burst capacity, keeping requests flowing smoothly and maintaining performance.

Performance metrics
With bursting on a site, you can can handle 15M visitors per month or more, scaling up to millions of visits. WP Cloud-backed Pressable sees <0.5% infrastructure-related tickets. Enjoy real-time monitoring with 10-second intervals.
