#OctPoWriMo Day 16: Poem — Mirrored Refrain — “Jewelled & Unrequited” #amwritingpoetry

For OctPoWriMo Day 16, the prompt “is about turning things inside out and upside down. Painting the sky purple, the grass pink and everything else any color you want. Allow yourself to get creative, paint a scene with your words . . .” The form of poetry I’m using is called a Mirrored Refrain:The rhyme scheme is as follows — xaBA, xbAB, xaBA, xbAB.

Rain danced on pearlized cement,

Diamonds pink, huge as grapefruit melted;

Rain fell in rays of gold un-delighted,

An amber moon cried blue-tears frightened.

*****

Rain danced on pearlized cement,

Tissue-paper flowers drowned relentless;

An amber moon cried blue-tears frightened.

Rain fell in rays of gold un-delighted.

*****

Rain danced on pearlized cement —

As emerald grass glowed in blue-sunlight;

Rain fell in rays of gold un-delighted,

An amber moon cried blue-tears frightened.

*****

Rain danced on pearlized cement,

In jewels everyone lost love unrequited;

An amber moon cried blue-tears frightened.

Rain fell in rays of gold un-delighted.

Poem: Rondel – « Flamingo Pink and Fire Engine Red » #amwritingpoetry

Rondel — ABba abAB, abbaA

Credit: Gwen Weustink via Unsplash

Flamingo pink, and fire engine red,

His words saucers, tea liquid caustic.

Couldn’t fathom his tantrums, words plastic;

Each spoken syllable hurt and bled.

My wet tears trickled in puddles that spread,

His wild torment as threats burned erratic;

Flamingo pink, and fire engine red,

His words saucers, tea liquid caustic.

The fight burst, away all fairness sped,

I shivered in his frigid Arctic.

Dying with heat, so his sanity fled.

Flamingo pink, and fire engine red.

Poem: Free Verse — « The Battle Poem » #amwritingpoetry

Credit: Priscilla Du Preez

All these things I cannot say, words corked, unused;

You won’t withhold your mischief,

So, I’ll remain in melancholy (what a weird word).

Yet, gallant melodies glorious are catchy, unless your voice is scratchy;

Melancholy — the sadness running through in depression.

I can pray times-ten, and God, you’re forever listening,

That whatever and, however, my loved ones lost are feeling, dealing —

They’re without deep sorrow, they’ve your tranquility.

God’s focused, sure, cheering still, though my fan clubs been ousted.

How’s evil permitted such power?

It’s not simple — so I write —

Passing days, hours, without true human morality here,

That’s saying something, because our mortality’s fatally flawed;

Here, it’s worse, a cruel beginning —

Still, please provide a cheerful end.

A happy one — although, we know they’re rare.

T.S. Eliot wrote we die “not with a bang but a whimper;”

Maybe, death’s not dramatic, instantaneously awful;

Maybe, it’s the slipping away into Heaven’s reality, Gods kingdom?

Maybe, it’s awaking to all that was lost?

Unrighteously stolen, rules unspecified, meaningless —

An evil charge for everything, no reason.

We think: ” what’s yours is yours,” but some have no concept;

Joy, trust, nostalgic memories, in this place you’re a wink.

So, I toss too you to the sea, monsters;

Causing fright, stress beyond measure.

Too much, too much —

Go away — out darkness, and your flickering candles.

False idols be gone, out with your betrayals.

Out for you’re the blackest cavern; all I want is the comfort of true home.

This isn’t it, yet it’s all that I have,

So, take up your offenses with the ravens and crows;

Caws of betrayal, bitter darkness.

In peace, let me abstain from evil charades,

Leave what’s not yours, take back you’re grief and trouble.

One day I’ll be gone, but not by your power nor within it,

For Gods kingdom calls, and His daughters know Him.

They’re precious to Him, as every human you hurt without thought;

No, more stealing you’re dead — rebuked, cast out.

The battle was won thousands of years ago,

On Easter triumphed.

A war lost directly after the fall;

So, fear and evil withers, hope blossoms;

Pink tulips flourish, Gerbera daisies dancing too.

And the cold mist of silence clears,

Melodies of exaltation, hymns of glory rain;

Such Glory — God has won the day.

#NaPoWriMo Day 12: Poem – Quadrille – “Death Lillies” #amwritingpoetry

For NaPoWriMo Day 12, the prompt is:

“Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem about a dull thing that you own, and why (and how) you love it. Alternatively, what would it mean to you to give away or destroy a significant object?”

Credit: Debby Hudson via Unsplash

Bought glowing flushed buds,

To redefine elegance, breath life in my den.

Thought they were tulips, pretty but certain;

Now, they’re nothing –wilted petals I hate.

Deceptive crisp leaves, rose-pink; garish purple tongues.

Death Lillies.

Some would say you‘re spring’s life, but I’m un-impressed;

You‘re desolation.

Ipsy Bag: June 2018 #Ipsy #beauty #Ipsysocialbutterfly #Ipsybag #makeup #skincare

Here’s what I received in this month’s Ipsy Bag. To join the beauty subscription you can sign up at Ipsy.

June’s Cute Case in Support of Pride Month.

This month’s little subscription card.

PD Cosmeceuticals Infused Nail Lacquer (Polish) – The nail polish is nice, but not my color.

Feel PURE Anywhere Balm – Rose: This stuff is amazing! I loved it for chapped or cracked lips, especially at the corners. I’ve never had such issues with chapped lips in summer and usually find that Aragon Oil will heal the cracks at the corner of my mouth in a night. But it hasn’t been working, so this Balm has been working great as a kind of salve for my lips and mouth area in dry weather. Nice flavor too!

FINDING FERDINAND Nude/Pink Lipstick: Moisturizing and also the perfect nude/pink. I’m happy with this little lipstick choice this month 🙂

Kenzie Fragrance: I’m not sure what this perfume or fragrance is called. It doesn’t smell bad or good. It’s kind of a ‘meh’ scent. Maybe it’s a natural perfume, but I think the scent itself could be better.

MAC Prep & Prime – Skin Base Visage – MY FAVORITE! This stuff is amazing 🙂 It’s a primer and gel moisturizer in one. It’s so light and wonderful under makeup everyday to keep your makeup on through the day and also in the heat. This one I am going to purchase. It’s about $38.00 CAN on the MAC website.

Music Challenge: Poem – Wrapped Refrain (2) – “Those Pink Sunglasses” #dverse #poetry #musicchallenge

Thanks to Lillian of #dVerse Poet’s Pub for the September 12, 2017 prompt onto use the words rain, reign, rein in a poem. Also combining this prompt with MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie last Music Challenge with the song “Pink Sunglasses” by Miranda Lambert. Going for the triple threat with Bjorn’s Bjorn’s #dVerse Poet’s Pub prompt on using an extended, well known metaphor without “like” or “as.” I’m going to pick up on Miranda Lambert’s metaphor of “pink sunglasses” which I think very much overlaps with wearing “rose colored glasses.”

Miranda Lambert “Pink Sunglasses”

——

Rein in your white horses, the Queen of Pink’s going to reign

She’s pretty classy, kind of sassy, in a bubblegum way.

All around her is dreary pain,

She doesn’t blink or feel the rain

Pouring down, plastering her —

See-through t-shirt, guys inferring,

More than needs saying about her — bright pink sunglasses worn,

Her way to see the world, the old rose glasses cracked, ignored.

——

Pink is so much better, forget about rainy weather,

Giggle, leave behind the tragic, drink pink champagne whether —

You’re sad or too glad, pink masks —

Ironies, truth is, life is glass

It shatters far too easily,

Rose lenses dimmed as pink’s appeased.

Cause you can buy plastic pink sunglasses to view the world,

For $9.99 they’re so easy to replace, cheap pearls.

——-

Appearing in my pocket when I go anywhere ’cause —

There’s power in plastic pink shades, curing the bad that was.

Put them on when people are mad,

Wear them when you’re feeling quite sad.

Ignore naysayers without the pink,

Bringing rude negative thinking.

These pink babies don’t shatter or crack, if they do buy more —

Best placebo I’ve had while out loving life exploring.

—–

Don’t care about the truth, reality is annoying

I’ll pass by you dancing ’cause without pink, life quickly destroys.

Addicted to living with thick —

Sweet sugar coating of plastic.

Through the pink I see what I want,

And I do whatever and I flaunt.

Rose glasses go away, pink is brighter, it doesn’t fade,

My shades, wearing them I reign unafraid, I’ve got it made

——

Floating near, pink and bright,

Bubblegum tips that,

Sting, bite, cause such suffering

—–

I only wished to observe,

How pink goes,

Unseen, un-attacked within jewel-blue oceans.

—–

Then, I felt your unforgiving,

Stings, realizing then,

Bubblegum jellyfishes cause tremendous harm.

Saturday Mix: Poem – Lai – “What If?” #amwriting #dVerse #poetry #saturdaymix

Thanks to Teresa of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Saturday Mix with an “What If . .  .” prompt theme. I’m combining this prompt with a #dVerse prompt from Victoria C. Slotto, to do a form of poetry called a ‘Lai.’

What if the sky was —

Bright pink? Not blue but —

Hot Pink.

What if during storms,

Sky’s turned scarlet poured,

Red wine.

What if elephants soared,

Wings, ears flapping; trump

eting

What if those with eyes,

Blue or Green now had,

Pink eyes?

Bright orbes reflecting,

Sky violat purple,

with clouds.

What if words meant,

Flowed easily came,

Out swell?

Perfect words; but what —

If all birds talked,

Squabbled

If dogs spoke human?

Understood confessions,

You’ ve shared.

What if tomorrow,

The sky hailed childhood,

Bubblegum

The Lai (as we will play with it) a nine-line poem or stanza that uses an “a” and “b” rhyme following this pattern:

aab

aab.

The lines with an “a” rhyme use 5 syllables; the “b” rhyme lines only have 2 syllables:

Three hours into the desert [Sandra felt the jeep’s] engine choke and buckle, rolling dark smoke into the pale blue sky.

“Are you kidding me?” Sandra asked her husband Jim. “We’re going to the Grand Canyon something people do all the time from Vegas and the damn Barbie jeep breaks down? Don’t they maintain these things, check that they’re working before they leave us in the open desert?”

Jim gazed at his wife his eyes half closed. The temperature was a sizzling 45 degrees Celsius and growing up in Toronto’s cold winters meant he didn’t handle the heat well. Sandra’s harping made Jim feel that much worse, sweating prufesly in the leather seat beside her.

“Jim, Jim? Are you even listening to me? How long is it going to take for them to send another jeep? Why is everyone else so mellow about this? It gets cold in the desert at night and what about the snakes and scorpions?”

Jim groaned out load and Sandra gave him a dirty look. “Sandy, its hot right now,” he mumbled. “We’ve no air conditioning and if it gets cold soon that would be great for everyone. I’m sure the tour company will find us soon. Our jeep’s Barbie pink as you say.”

“Oh and could you calm down? You’re frightening the elderly couples,” he said whispering into Sandra’s ear as to not offend the two couples nearby.

Sandra gave Jim a weird look then continued yapping. The tour guides who had been on the radio the last hour with their company were now glaring at Sandra as they too sufferered in the heat and from her constant questions.

The older couples had it the worst, Jim thought. No one wanted any of them to undergo heat stroke since the temperature  seemed to affect the four of them the most. Sandra’s constant complaining wasn’t helping the matter.

“Simmer down, lady,” one guide told Sandra,”This happens sometimes. Another jeep is a couple of hours away, if you can control yourself until then.”

Sandra didn’t care, she kept talking.

Jim was surprised when a lady in her seventies, named Meg, smacked Sandra’s face hard. So hard he could see the red outline of the woman’s hand on Sandra’s sweaty cheek. Sandra was so shocked she didn’t say another word except to ask for a bottle of water every couple of hours.

Megan winked at Jim and said: “Nothing like a good smack in the face. I think the heat was getting to your wife. She seems to be okay now that I smacked her and that she’s drinking water instead of talking.” Jim laughed bumping fists with feisty Meg.

“Okay?” Jim asked Sandra later.

“Yeah good now, just a little panic attack I think. The heat was getting to me.”

Jim laughed at this stroking Sandra’s back.

The evening sky in the desert turned from twilight into glittering black with giant stars. All eight people in the jeep sighed with pleasure as the blistering heat cooled and they were awed by the fantastic celestial bodies.

When another pink jeep arrived the next morning, no one complained about the heat or Sandra. Both problems had been eclipsed by the perfect temperature and the starry night viewed under them.

Day 5 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – A L’Arora – “Steps To Eternity” #amwriting #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge

For Day 5, the NaPoWriMo poetry prompt is ” to write a poem that is based in the natural world: it could be about a particular plant, animal, or a particular landscape. But it should be a slice of the natural world that you have personally experienced and optimally, one that you have experienced often.” The accompanying A to Z Challenge today starts with a GoodRead’s author’s quote, with a name beginning with the letter E.

Forest Pathway NaNo

“I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.” ― Emma Goldman

*****

Down the path of foliage, between all the trees,

It’s where I find my space, my home sweet home.

There’s something about crisp green leaves,

Wet after the rain, while the dew clings, not letting go.

With road passing through, steps to eternity,

Enthrall me in summer’s breath, the scent of the morning,

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

Tree branches entwining, limbs gripped with passion,

Used to the presence of parallel lovers.

They’re completely attached, unwilling to let go,

Nymphs holding fast, enraptured with each other,

With the road passing through, steps to eternity,

Absorbing the thrill of the mid-summer fairy dance.

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

Some brilliant reckless person crafted this road,

Travelers speeding through trees, guarding the sacred path.

Some pause knowing they’ve discovered sanctuary,

Freedoms breeze, they’ll stop to admire the sentinels guarding.

With the road passing through, steps to eternity,

A place where verdant nature, holds a secret prosperity.

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

For hours I’ve wandered through lush trees,

Delicate roses growing, shadowed by dripping leaves.

Overcome am I, by epic beauty, of roses sweetly pink,

Crushing them in my hands, to absorb the memories.

With the road passing through, steps to eternity.

Inhaling the fragrance of aspiring life, in roses soft,

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.
