Poem: Free Verse — “The Fireworks: Canadian Dreams” #amwritingpoetry

http://www.middleeastexperience.com

I thought it more than magical, a brilliance of lights,

Coursing through the atmosphere, something beautiful aglow.

Your words rang true beneath the starlight sky persistant and calm,

And, I could breathe again, as the fireworks shot high into the night.

Such splendor in the sky, violent light plunging then taking off, twisting trails among the stars.

We shared in a crystal clear evening, an experience together,

A beginning of something sweet, as the lights carried into the emergence of another summer,

We gasped at fireworks bright and walked through vivid streets and roadways.

Sidewalks filled with chattering, a world full of singles and families, children awed by multi-colored light.

And in your arms, he smiled, a boy out to enjoy the night, perhaps; a shadow of one who will be ours,

Only, a small child, but he was full of energy as the the fireworks whistled madly into the sky.

And it struck me again, as the lights descended, ending in pearls of dew, red sparkled-delight,

That one day you would hold our own son, and we might entertain him at a similar event.

You and I, hand and hand beneath the God-given sky.

Smiles, a longing in your eyes as all kinds of fireworks released, and ballooning thoughts of what could be silenced all.

Ten-minutes later, and the light-show ended, and we’re a beer away from more deep thoughts of endless wonder,

You put the child down, gave him back, all the way home he titters;

He was full of summer joy, and that joy overtook us too as the night sped on.

Oh, country in whom we’ve no disturbing plight, God’s grant us time to linger, and sit in quiet dark and summer sun.

We’re no longer alone, or are we?

I, stuck in this apartment, you beneath the sun’s dusk of glories.

But, as my writer’s mind sifts, I rediscover our language, one of lovers, with calm and delight;

Language spoken in stuttered sentences then smoothed out as whisky into a glass, an amazing uplifting feeling of freedom relished.

Words and dreams together, forming our night, a one day history of us, hope for our future lives,

Fireworks, liberty, a child’s laughter, beer: all Canadian dreams.

#MayDay Prompt Day 15: Poem – Tankas – “A Quiet Strength” #amwritingpoetry

For Day 15, the prompt are falling asleep in bed and falling asleep at the winter table.

Tankas – 5,7,5,7,7,

Didn’t mean to fall,

For my eyes to close,

Weighted with feathers.

To close, open to Heaven?

Maybe, familiarity?

****

Meant nightmares to melt,

Wickedness to crumble.

Familiar smiles,

To return, to right the world,

To right every hurt bothered.

*****

Didn’t mean to sleep at —

Supper, but some nights it’s the —

Only place I’ve rest.

Go into the keap, pass out,

Or, finish dinner eyes shut.

*****

What do you think?

What do you mean, when you,

Tear apart the world?

Tear apart my self without —

Any right? Let me sleep well.

*****

What don’t you get?

Why must you open,

Your mouth; why’d you speak?

Only to complain, murmur,

Of all these shadows you caused.

*****

Your own making, sins;

You don’t learn, tremble, move on.

You know; yet, you still —

Refuse to see the truth banging,

At your brain, you’re stone-headed.

****

What’s to understand?

You’ve lost, now slither on past;

Combust you serpent,

I’m mine, I’m God’s three-in-one;

Leave me to sleep serene.

*****

No more threats or barks,

No more excuses, you’ve lost;

Evil be not proud,

You’re not my Lord sheltering,

In Him, I’ve a quiet strength.

Saturday Mix: Poem – “Goddess Pup of War” #SaturdayMix #amwritingpoetry

Thanks to Sarah of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting #SaturdayMix. Her theme today is Personification.

They told me it was easy — that a wolf was born to run,

Never once did they talk about innocence, a scattering of light shunned.

When all the darkness mustered, and drove forth as Roman armies.

They told me I had to do it, but my frail hands shook.

My eyes peeped through my lashes, venom running through my veins.

For no one told me about the spilling,

The loss of life and gore; men now faceless, missing limbs.

Life left them in a quickening, and I peeked through the brambles;

Thorns stabbed into my paws, the moon haunted by shadows as if it too, hid.

I wandered around the copse, limbs prickling and tongue mute.

An anthemyst sky drew forth night, a small end to battle; and to camp for today they returned.

No side was bad, no side was good; each believed their god gave glory;

But I was pup who lay on crumpled leaves, moaning in the blood-scented air.

I was but an observer and the scenes were obtrusive; never failed to numb me.

They overcame my sleep, no place for pups as down to sleep.

And in the night I heard them weep, beg for life and help;

For moms to hold them close, for lovers to sing one more note.

And the night was a cacophony, until death silenced some;

And others fell into fevered sleep.

Yet, the crimson morning came with an ominous bells knell; I failed to close my eyes all night.

The clashing of metal, the tangy smoke of guns,

Invaded my nightmares as the half-dead lay silent, if only to live through one more day.

And a tiny wolf crept forth, and through the carnage lunged.

She lengthened each foot and grew tall, silvery fur huge snow-white teeth clasped, titanium claws split bone.

And she knew in the end all had been lost, but she was born to run — to hunt;

She was the goddess of war, and hers was a warrior’s life or death to give.

It never mattered that through each year,

She was still a babe crying in the darkness numb, half-dead after battle.

Half-dead of heart to survive such gore; so, she let loose her demons,

And the fates chose the victors, if there ever are any?

She knew too well as cherub tears fell, nothing was just or fair in war — suffering was the only assurance.

Suffering and the fairy-man’s boat rowing, as if he had all time,

All the time in the world, because he did; and she howled as the dusk once again swept.

She lay down in the copse, a wolf pup again; goddess of war without a pack.

Lady whose job was to perpetually morn, to pick and choose, and forever feel the pain.

Knife and gun, nightmares and terrors, for peace was an infinity — the only dream she had.

#OctPoWriMo Day 30/Saturday Mix: Poem – Lunes – “The Final Dance” #amwritingpoetry #SaturdayMix

For OctPoWriMo Day 30 the Prompt is dancing on the moon. I’m combining with Sarah from MindLoveMisery”s Menagerie Same But Different, Saturday Mix prompt. For this week we need to find synonyms for the following words: water, fabric, polish, switch, and floor.

Credit: Donald Giannatti via Unsplash

Elegant silk, battles I’ve wrought,

Pink leather rock,

I’ve bled magic into dust .

*****

Care not you for plies?

Broken-in hide,

Feet deformed, calloused, and refined.

*****

Torture wrought by instructors, tutors —

Lips bit; droplets,

Blood sticking; pealing away slippers.

*****

On stage I’m Fairy Queen,

Benign White Swan;

Hidden behind, black-swans swipe.

*****

Struggle, no food, treats, temptation;

A bite will,

Destroy me — never lose face.

*****

I’ve chosen to suffer, embracing —

Tomorrow’s hip replacements;

Knobby knees mettle, posture destroyed.

*****

Living is dancing, so I twirl,

Toes dying as —

My heart lifts; I fly.

*****

Crowds roar, shout bravo aloud,

We curtsy, bow,

As inside we die, depressed.

*****

Anorexic Divas, or devils spitting;

Plastic smiles shift,

Undermining each other’s talents — dreams.

****

Now, I’m the Sugarplum Fairy;

Legs lift to hips, stretch —

Split, bend with finesse blurred.

*****

Tomorrow I’m gone; the ballet,

A hunger games;

I nibble chocolate, humbled, resigned.

*****

Though I was a tigress inside,

Mangling slippers; I’m —

Listless absorbing the starry night.

*****

I’m elegant, nimble as Luna’s —

Glow spotlights my,

Final dance, done beneath moonlight.

#OctPoWriMo Day 14/100 Word Wednesday: Poem – Free Verse – “ A Safety Net” #amwritingpoetry #100WordWednesday

For OctPoWriMo Day 14 the Prompt is If I Were Me. Also, combing with Bikurgurl’s #100WordWednesday.

Ask yourself, “If I were me…” what would that look like? Who are you really? Have you lost yourself in being a mother, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, father?

Credit: Toa Heftiba via Unsplash

Ask for the world, typify me,

Take advantage or carve my insides;

Pumpkin gutted.

I’ve chosen to take, the high road, to believe —

To have faith.

Not to see, things not there.

To reveal the truth,

Even though, curiosity may kill me.

But I’ll be damned if I don’t configure the puzzle pieces;

I’m a writer, I love a good mystery.

So, weave me a tale and I’ll unbind it thread by thread;

Only to see it’s trembling core, where light reveals the mayhem.

I wish for sunlight, carved tables with Zinfandel,

A place to write, you next to me;

No suffocation, no squeezing in my chest,

My liberty not at stake.

Complications, deviations, things I never expected;

Truth and disbelief collide as dynamite splashes.

I am the wind, I am the great detective,

No laudanum needed to dull the senses or to dream.

I am the Amazon and I am Alice,

Slipping back into Wonderland.

And I’ve discovered that beneath facades,

Can lie a beast with scales and teeth.

Slithering, slick, slime of rust,

Questionable creature, Adam’s fall —

Eve’s mistrust; and if I can’t have all the details,

Assemble words into some order,

My decisions might break not only I,

But lives lie in the balance.

One who needs, so I must give,

Because my Lord said give all you can;

And even if you’re wrong,

Heaven will be your table in the sunlight,

Where you can write and find tranquility:

The ambience of love.

If I Were Me,

Who knows,

For she is constantly moulded,

Her Creator’s hands her safety net.

We Owned the Night” – Lady Antebellum

Craving skin sticking; recalling hurts,

Owning that night,

Lips dribbling sensuous enthralling words.

*****

You were my electric vision,

Owning that night,

Your purest beauty, stunned alive.

*****

Twirling, wine-wrecked your dress,

Owning that night,

Never forgetting tangled-sheet memories.

Deck of Scarlet May Palette: Dream, Number 8 #deckofscarlet @deckofscarlet #scarletlooks #beauty #makeup

Credit: Deck of Scarlet

So, a few weeks ago I received my second Deck of Scarlet Palette #8. This one is called the ‘Dream Palette,’ and came with a pretty lip gloss too. Now, I’m on their two-month rotation and won’t receive my next palette until July; but only if I like it ad it’s colors. With this subscription, you always have the option to opt out if you dislike a bi-monthly palette. The website is here http://www.deckofscarlet.com and you can sign up through the link here: Deck of Scarlet bi-monthly Subscription.

I love the portability if these palettes and that you can easily slip them in your purse or in an overnight bag and not have to worry about eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, and lipstick. I love the pink and peachy hues of the Dream Palette. They are so flattering on most any skin tone.

Enchanted is the most beautiful shimmering coral shade for eyeshadow and Myth looks wonderful in your crease, or alone for no-worry eyeshadow. The shade, Crown, is a deep pink, and is pretty in your crease to amp up your look, or too mix with Enchanted and make it more pink . Tiara is a beautiful shade of blush, the most perfect light pink for anyone, and can be worn subtly or more boldly on your cheeks.

The highlighter, Fairy Dust, is a lovely honey-gold shimmer that is subtle. It can be layered for a more intense effect, but works well on your cheekbones, brow bone, nose, and inside corner of your eyes. Both the blush and highlighter are easily usable with other eyeshadows you own. The Fairy Dust highlighter is beautiful on your eyelids with Myth in your crease for minimal eye makeup with a touch of summer shimmer.

Above, you can see the entire palette, including two lipstick shades. Kiss is the perfect nude shade with a bit more pink in it then my last palette’s brown-nude shade. It mixes well with the deep pink shade called Maiden, for an enhanced pink-nude or you can blend the two colors to the intensity you desire.

A deeper lipstick shade Maiden or Maiden with a touch of Kiss is awesome for nighttime events or if you want make your lips pop and keep the rest of your makeup toned down in the office or out and about. One vital point, these two lip shades are not moisturizing as the lipsticks in my first Deck of Scarlet palette, so put gloss on your lips before applying the lipstick. Let it sick-in while you do the rest of your face.

Lips are given a great deal of attention in the Dream palette. For this reason, the boxes extra for the Dream palette #8 this month was this gorgeous shimmer-nude/pinklipgloss called Love Spell. It mimics the sheen of the Enchanted eyeshadow, although, much less intense and more pink.

Put it over top the nude lipstick color Kiss or over your bold lipstick shade of Maiden for a luminous lipstick look. Or, wear the lipgloss colour of Love Spell alone for a nude-pink lip with sheen. The gloss has more moisture than the lipsticks, but I’d still let a lip balm sink into your lips first.

Here’s the pretty packaging of the May Deck of Scarlet Palette #8, so you have good idea of how portable the palette is. Again, the pigment in the palette was excellent, and stays on well throughout the day. It’s easy to carry with you for touch ups.

Around my eyes I tight-lined inside my upper and lower water lines with black (dark brown) and then put a thin line of smudge pot or gel waterproof black (or dark brown) liner along my eyelashes. I blended this second line into my eyelashes with a tiny eyeshadow brush.

In case pink or coral is not so much your color, the liner prevents your eyes from appearing sickly, if the shades are not quite your skin tone colors. What I love about the Deck of Scarlet Palette’s is that anyone can wear these colors in the right way. The tutorials by other bloggers are so helpful for this.

Kim Thai is the Instagram/Blogger who designed the Deck of Scarlet May #8 palette and as last time, I’m posting tutorials below. To note, as before, Deck of Scarlet Palettes are Natural and Cruelty Free.

Poem: Italian Sonnet “What We Could Become” #dVerse #amwriting #poetry

Thanks to Lillian from #dVerse Poetics Pub for hosting last week’s prompt on Windows, looking in and looking out,.

———

Here I stand, watching the sea, in and out,
The tide flows, paces itself in and out.
Though I should be outside in the surf’s shout.
Quiet of the indoors keeps me about.
At grande window stopped, my mind with such doubt.
Wrapping my sweater tightly thinking long,
Of days gone by, the future’s pull, a song.
Watching boats sail by, sea birds diving flout,
Captured fish, tiny sea creatures, I pause.
Unsure where to start, where to go, no hint —
Of what lies before me, from the before.
So I wait, I wander, I wait for you, flaws —
And all; unsure if you were a dream or —
Some hopeful vision, what we could become.

Sunday Photo Fiction: ‘All Hope Abandon Ye Who Enter Here’ #amwriting #flashfiction #Dante #TheInferno

Thanks to Alistair Forbes for hosting SPF.

——–

Credit: A Mixed Bag – Alistair Forbes

——–

“THROUGH me you pass into the city of woe: Through me you pass into eternal pain: Through me among the people lost for aye. Justice the founder of my fabric moved: To rear me was the task of Power divine, Supremest Wisdom, and primeval Love. Before me things create were none, save things Eternal, and eternal I endure. All hope abandon, ye who enter here.” –  The Divine Comedy, The Inferno (Canto III. Lines 1 -9).

——-

“Abandon all hope? How can this be right?  I didn’t kill anyone and I was no pervert. I stood for my political office. I did what I had to do,” Ker said.

“How do you know it was the right cause?”

“Well, I just do.”

“What about those you hurt along the way? Your wife, Meredith, who now rests in Heaven’s fold? You’re here at the gates of Hell at the river Acheron for a reason,” the wise Charon told Ker.

“I didn’t mean to hurt her, to use her to get where I needed to go. I loved her, but I didn’t mean to leave her. I prayed and I apologized. I admitted my sins to a priest in confession. Yet, here I am in Hell at the Traitors’ Gate, why here?”

Charon sighed and whisked the regretful Ker’s soul into the boat. “I wonder Ker, where Midas will send you? Will you be in the eighth circle as a corrupt politician or the ninth circle for being a traitor to your wife, to your family? Will you spend eternity ‘a Judas?'”

Ker shook his head, “This is nothing but a dream. Dante’s Inferno does not exist. I won’t abandon hope, I won’t. Meredith is not dead and I’m not really here.”

“But you did stop hoping and you’re a traitor so now you face the Traitors’ Gates. You are one of them and that’s why this gate is where you will enter into the ninth circle of Hell.”

“What?! I’m so sorry, I mean it. I repent. I’ll do better and change my ways. Tell me this is just a dream, let me have another chance.”

Charon chuckled and shook his head wearily.”It seems someone up high is fighting for your soul, Ker, I don’t why because your soul is pitch black. Yet, you will have another chance. Remember you won’t get another.”

—–

Ker awakes suddenly whispering pleading prayers in words of Latin and Ancient Greek. He doesn’t know why he understands these prayers to God, but he does. Ker attempts to pick up his smartphone nearby but feels terrible pain whenever he moves.

Then, his beautiful Meredith walks in the hospital room door. “Meredith? I thought you were dead. That you would never speak to me again. I thought you were in Heaven and I was in Hell, I dreamt it.”

Meredith smiled at Ker with love despite how he had treated her recently: “Who do you think asked God to give you a second chance? I gave up eternity for a later time, hoping you will be there with when I return. Now you must fulfill your promises made in front of Charon.”

“So, can you change, Ker? Can you stop being a traitor and fight for ‘the good’ in this world? Can you fight for me, for us, for our family?” Meredith asked.

Ker was just grateful to be alive. He swore to do better in life, in love, and he did.
