Good News

I had an email from the incoming president of my professional society. This is someone whom I have worked with on a committee and he wrote that he was so impressed with what I accomplished there that he wanted my suggestions for speakers to invite to an upcoming lecture series. "Not the usual suspects." he said. I'm very flattered by his request.

Bad News

My best friend's house was burgled while he was at the at the movies yesterday. It was probably a junkie; they grabbed a camera, two watches and an Apple laptop. leaving a big screen TV behind. There is an alarm system, but it somehow malfunctioned and failed to notify the central monitoring station. The thief trashed a couple of rooms while tipping out the contents of drawers. The police came and managed to pull a couple of good prints. Interesting; my buddy is German and learned to type in German... and his Macbook has a German keyboard. Which should make it pretty easy to identify if it ends up in a pawn shop.... or on eBay.

 Dear Washingtonians; I know you're having a hard time with the snow. But here's a big dirty secret; even though it snows in the Mid Atlantic every winter, most drivers completely forget what to do when driving in snow for the first time each year. So don't be hard on yourself for doing barrel rolls down Dravus Street in your Volvo.

No really; if you think this was a good idea, you're too immature to own a house.

Charles Addams, the lovable yet macabre cartoonist who brought us Morticia, Gomez and the rest of the truly oddball Addams Family, would have been 100 today. I adored his dark cartoons as a child and they can still make me guffaw today. Google even honored his birthday with a doodle .
