Diet update, "month 1"

It's only been a couple weeks since my first diet appointment, but now I'm on the schedule for 2nd Tuesday of the month for the rest of the time. I've lost 3 pounds since that appointment! Their scale put my at 302.2 lbs. (My scale first thing this morning said 300!) The highest weight I've seen on the scale is 311, but that was on the unreliable scale I keep at work, so who knows how high I ever got. Needless to say, I plan to get under 300 and to never see that number again.

The diet class tonight discussed exercise. Nothing that an educated fat person doesn't already know! It covered really basic things, like what are the different benefits to cardio and strength training. They want us to exercise 30-60 minutes A DAY. Dude, I don't even shower every day because I don't feel like I have time. Guess I need to work on priorities.

Protein shakes

Ugh, so the shakes are giving me some major cramping. If I don't adjust to this brand (About Time) by the end of the jar, I will need to try a different one! I am impressed that protein shakes truly do kill off the hunger, even better than two egg white delights from McD's!

Medically supervised diet

So, one of the things going on in my life right now is that I'm starting a medically supervised diet. My first appointment with the dietician (named Erika) was yesterday. Basically, the diet is high protein, low carb, with one meal replaced with a protein shake. I am drinking my first one right now and it is yummy! The brand of protein powder I'm trying is called "About Time", vanilla favor. It's all non-GMO, gluten free, sugar free (sweetened with stevia), lactose free, and packs in 25g protein with only 100 calories. I got it at GNC but they also have it on Amazon. It is way cheaper on Amazon so if I get more of this brand I'll get it there.

Hardest thing is drinking it slowly. Mmm, shake.

Cheap glasses?

Those of you who know me know that I have terrible eyesight. My glasses typically cost over $300 (after insurance!). So, in June 2014 I began poring over the hundreds and hundreds of glasses available online. I opted for some really cute frames (designer! blue!) and plugged in my prescription. Voila! $110 dollars later my glasses were being made in good ol' China. Took longer than I expected to ship (since my Rx is so strong, they said). If I remember correctly, they arrived in about 2 weeks. Frames were indeed very cute, so I lucked out that they fit well and looked good on my face. The prescription was not *perfect* like my eye-doctor glasses, but they were okay. I could see and read, but could tell something was a little bit off. (When I go to my eye doc next month I'll really know how off they are because I'll ask them to check the Rx.) I decide to live with the slight Rx issue because I figure it would be more hassle than it was worth to try to resolve it. Fast forward 10 months, the coating on one of the lenses (the scratch-resistant coating) is coming off one of the lenses! Makes seeing through that side virtually impossible. It's like having a big smear of mayo right smack in the middle of my lens. I've sent an email off to the company in some small hope that the coating is warrantied for some amount of time, but I doubt it since I can't find any info like that on their website. Speaking of that, the company is question is Goggles4U.com.

The girls are currently in their 3rd session of gymnastics at the YMCA. They're getting confident enough to do things now, thankfully. Margot was pretty timid at first and was especially crushed when she didn't get to move up a level after the 1st session (like Cora did). We've had to explain several times that Cora is still in the little kid class and the things they do are considerably easier compared to what Margot's class is expected to do to move up.

I miss you, LJ

It's been four years since I've LJed! Gosh, apparently (if you are lucky enough to be on my LJ friends list) my last update was when Margot was getting ready to enter play-school. Well, she is now approaching the end of her Kindergarten year! And Cora just turned 4 and is a hoot. Yes, a hoot. My kids are the best and make me so proud to be their mom.

I really need to update my user pics on here. But hey, at least I look nice and young, lol.
Come vote for Margot in the Cutest Kids Contest at STLtoday.com.

Thanks!

Jan. 18th, 2009

How sad, I have caught up to the present day on Dooce.com. I have been reading the last 5 years of her posts during nighttime feedings. It is like reaching the end of a book (a book with a dramatic cliffhanger because she's pregnant again). A good book that made you laugh and cry. More laughs than tears, to be sure. Now I have to be checking for new entries instead of being able to hit the "next" button. :(

I also think I'm gonna go "Friends Only" from now on. So, those real-life friends I have that don't have an LJ acct should make one, and then they can friend me and still read along.

My favorite jeans

I am excited to say that I am currently shoe-horned into my favorite pre-pregnancy jeans.

... I don't think I'd go out in public with them painted on like this, but at least I can get them onto my thighs and even zip them now. No way I could've done that a few weeks ago.

If I stop baking brownies, I might even be able to wear these all the time soon.

Today is my 6 week postpartum check up with my OB, Dr P. It is a strange feeling: that this is the final appointment from this pregnancy. Like this chapter of my life, co-starring Dr P, is ending. I need to remember to get a referral to a counselor, because I'm just not right in the head right now. I feel like I can't talk or relate to anyone.

Margot has had terrible gas the past few days. She has been unconsolable from the pain. You should hear her cries. It is so obvious that she's in pain, and that is sooo hard to hear when you can't do anything more for it than you've already done. Last night, I even had to get Jon up to give me a break (which I avoid doing on a work-night). Eventually Margot will fart and then pass out because she's so tired from crying.

Like right now she is sleeping. I took a shower for the first time in like 3 days.

Aside from the gas, Margot has been great. We took her to a photography opening Friday night to much success. Jon wore her in our Snugli while I wrangled the diaper bag. Margot wore her new monkey shoes and we got lots of compliments on them. The gallery was PACKED. Afterwards, we walked to dinner at The Delmar, where we had to lay her on the bench in the booth since we didn't have anywhere else to put her, lol. We won't be able to do that for much longer since she'll be rolling around soon.

Well, I should go put on some pants that fit me better. I'm probably cutting off circulation to my legs.
