È morto Mark Samuels
Apprendiamo solo oggi della triste scomparsa ai primi di dicembre di Mark Samuels, scrittore inglese di letteratura weird e grande studioso del fantastico, morto a soli 56 anni.
Autore di varie antologie di racconti weird e horror, tra cui ricordiamo The White Hands and Other Weird Tales (Tartarus Press 2003), Black Altars (Rainfall Books 2003), Glyphotek & Other Macabre Processes (PS Publishing 2008) e The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories (Ex Occidente 2010 e Chomu Press 2011) e di alcuni romanzi, è stato membro e segretario della società degli Amici di Arthur Machen, che ammirava molto, insieme a Lovecraft e Ligotti.
Descritto da Ramsey Campbell come il “Thomas Ligotti inglese”, le sue principali influenze letterarie furono gli scrittori europei Stefan Grabinski, Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, Dino Buzzati e Jean Lorrain.
Uno dei suoi racconti più rappresentativi, “Le mani bianche”, è stato pubblicato nel dodicesimo numero della rivista Hypnos.

We are very sorry to hear that the British author Mark Samuels, aged 56, passed away at the beginning of December. Known as a fantastic and weird literature writer, he was a member of the Friends of Arthur Machen, who he greatly admired, together with Lovecraft and Ligotti. Ramsey Campbell called him “a British Thomas Ligotti”. One of his stories, The White Hands, was published by Edizioni Hypnos in Hypnos Magazine #12. Le atmosfere oscure di Thomas Ligotti a teatro
“Nottuari” è il titolo di uno spettacolo teatrale, ispirato alle opere dello scrittore Thoma Ligotti, che andrà in scena a Prato, presso il Teatro Metastasio, dal 9 al 12 marzo.
Lo spettacolo, per la regia e scenografia di Fabio Condemi e Fabio Cherstich, racconterà, per citare le parole del regista, “innominabili culti sotterranei che cospirano per disfare il tessuto della realtà; notti buie, notti di Halloween, corpi alieni e mutilati, ghigni e orrori senza volto partecipano a una sorta di galleria d’arte che si trasforma in un luogo in cui le linee tra il sogno, lo spazio, l’incubo sbiadiscono fino a confondersi”.

“The Secret of Ventriloquism” di Jon Padgett in arrivo in Italia
Burattini o burattinai?
Da dove scaturiscono i nostri pensieri? E le nostre parole?
Edizioni Hypnos annuncia il prossimo volume della collana Modern Weird: si tratta di The Secret of Ventiloquism di Jon Padgett, la prima antologia (2016) dell’autore statunitense considerato il più importante erede dell’horror ligottiano, undici storie che immergono il lettore in un vorticoso labirinto di emozioni e fascinazioni. La versione italiana seguirà l’ultima edizione rivista e ampliata del 2020.
Jon Padgett, ventriloquo di professione, in campo letterario oltre all’attività di scrittore unisce quella di curatore, per la rivista Vastarien, ed è stato il fondatore nel 1997 della pagina web Thomas Ligotti Online.
Il volume sarà disponibile tra maggio e ottobre 2021.

Edizioni Hypnos announced the next volume in Modern Weird series: The Secret of Ventiloquism by Jon Padgett, the first collection (2016) of the American writer who is regarded as the most important heir of Thomas Ligottis’s horror. The Italian edition will follow the revised edition published in 2020, and will be available in the second half of this year.

È in uscita per Grimscribe Press il primo numero del 2020 della rivista Vastarien, curata da Jon Padgett e dedicata al fantastico e all’horror, prevalentemente di matrice ligottiana.

Vastarien, tutte le novità in arrivo
Mentre è in uscita il quarto numero della rivista di ispirazione ligottiana, Vastarien (Vol. 2, #1), che vede tra i protagonisti Natalia Theodoridou, fresca vincitrice del World Fantasy Award, Gemma Files e Jayaprakash Satyamurthy, autore della raccolta Weird Tales of a Bangalorean, sono aperte le submission per articoli, racconti, illustrazioni esclusivamente di autrici per il “Women in Horror Month”. La scadenza è fissata al 2 marzo 2019, e un occhio particolare è riservato per le opere provenienti al di fuori degli States.
Il nuovo numero di Vastarien è previsto per la primavera 2019. Tutti gli aggiornamenti sulla pagina Facebook della rivista.
While the fourth issue of Vastarien (vol. 2 #1) is almost ready to be published, in spring 2019, featuring Natalia Theodoridou, winner of the World Fantasy Award, Gemma Files and Jayaprakash Satyamurthy, author of the collection Weird Tales of a Bangalorean, the submissions for the “Women in Horror Month” just started: work, articles and artwork can be sent until March 2nd 2019, and a special attention will be focused on the works coming from other Countries than the United States.

Thomas Ligotti al LA Shorts International Film Festival
In A Foreign Town, cortometraggio ispirato alle opere di Thomas Ligotti, sarà presentato in anteprima mondiale al LA Shorts International Film Festival il 29 luglio.
Il film è stato creato come concept di una serie televisiva al momento in produzione, e vede alla regia Michael Schlain.

In A Foreign Town, short film inspired by Thomas Ligotti’s works, will premiere at LA Shorts International Film Festival, on July the 29th.
Written and directed by Michael Schlain, the short film was created as a proof-of-concept for a television series currently in development.
Vastarien: rivista dedicata a Ligotti e al fantastico
