È morto Mark Samuels
Apprendiamo solo oggi della triste scomparsa ai primi di dicembre di Mark Samuels, scrittore inglese di letteratura weird e grande studioso del fantastico, morto a soli 56 anni.
Autore di varie antologie di racconti weird e horror, tra cui ricordiamo The White Hands and Other Weird Tales (Tartarus Press 2003), Black Altars (Rainfall Books 2003), Glyphotek & Other Macabre Processes (PS Publishing 2008) e The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories (Ex Occidente 2010 e Chomu Press 2011) e di alcuni romanzi, è stato membro e segretario della società degli Amici di Arthur Machen, che ammirava molto, insieme a Lovecraft e Ligotti.
Descritto da Ramsey Campbell come il “Thomas Ligotti inglese”, le sue principali influenze letterarie furono gli scrittori europei Stefan Grabinski, Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, Dino Buzzati e Jean Lorrain.
Uno dei suoi racconti più rappresentativi, “Le mani bianche”, è stato pubblicato nel dodicesimo numero della rivista Hypnos.

We are very sorry to hear that the British author Mark Samuels, aged 56, passed away at the beginning of December. Known as a fantastic and weird literature writer, he was a member of the Friends of Arthur Machen, who he greatly admired, together with Lovecraft and Ligotti. Ramsey Campbell called him “a British Thomas Ligotti”. One of his stories, The White Hands, was published by Edizioni Hypnos in Hypnos Magazine #12. Le atmosfere oscure di Thomas Ligotti a teatro
“Nottuari” è il titolo di uno spettacolo teatrale, ispirato alle opere dello scrittore Thoma Ligotti, che andrà in scena a Prato, presso il Teatro Metastasio, dal 9 al 12 marzo.
Lo spettacolo, per la regia e scenografia di Fabio Condemi e Fabio Cherstich, racconterà, per citare le parole del regista, “innominabili culti sotterranei che cospirano per disfare il tessuto della realtà; notti buie, notti di Halloween, corpi alieni e mutilati, ghigni e orrori senza volto partecipano a una sorta di galleria d’arte che si trasforma in un luogo in cui le linee tra il sogno, lo spazio, l’incubo sbiadiscono fino a confondersi”.

La giostra del maleficio di Jean Ray
Agenzia Alcatraz ha annunciato sulla propria pagina Facebook la pubblicazione, prevista per il mese di aprile, de La giostra del maleficio di Jean Ray, raccolta di racconti fantastici pubblicata originariamente solo pochi mesi prima della morte dello scrittore, nel 1964.
Il volume sarà presentato in anteprima all’evento Libri da Yuggoth, programmato per il 26 marzo a Milano presso la Casa dei Giochi, in via Sant’Uguzzone 8.

La terza antologia di Lynda E. Rucker, scrittrice americana di storie horror e fantasy, è stata pubblicata a fine gennaio dalla Swan River Press, con il titolo Now it’s dark.
Il volume, di 225 pagine, si compone di dieci racconti ed è disponibile in edizione limitata di 400 copie, autografate dall’Autrice, da Rob Shearman, che ha scritto l’introduzione, e dall’artista John Coulthart, autore della copertina.

Night Terrors al teatro Menotti di Milano
Appuntamento il 13 e 14 marzo al Teatro Menotti di Milano con lo spettacolo Night Terrors, con Gerard Logan e la regia di Gareth Armstrong.
Lo spettacolo, in lingua inglese e sovratitoli italiani grazie alla collaborazione con English Theater Milan, é ispirato a tre racconti di fantasmi dello scrittore E.F. Benson, “The Dance”, “In The Tube” e “The Confession of Charles Linkworth”.

Night Terrors is a solo performance by Gerard Logan, directed by Gareth Armstrong, to be held on 13-14 March at the Menotti Theater in Milano. The script is based on three ghost stories by E.F. Benson (“The Dance”, “In The Tube” and “The Confession of Charles Linkworth”) and the performance will be in English language, with Italian surtitles, thank to the collaboration with English Theater Milan.
