Modules and Module positions

Definition

By the term Modules we refer to extensions that provide additional functionality in specific areas (module positions) of a website. Modules are small blocks of functionality that extend the core capabilities of a CMS beyond the central content component. Elxis CMS categorizes modules as one of its core extension types, alongside components, content plugins and templates.

Unlike components, which control the main central section of a page, modules can appear in multiple template-defined positions such as sidebars, header areas, footers, and other dynamic regions. Elxis modules act similarly to widgets — for example, weather displays, polls, menus, or site statistics — and can be assigned to any module position supported by your template.

Module positions

In Elxis CMS, module positions are defined by the template and determine where modules appear visually on the page. Multiple modules can be assigned to the same position, and each can be individually configured and ordered. Modules can also be limited to display only on specific pages or sections, giving you fine control over your site’s layout.

Modules are flexible and powerful. They may augment the functionality of an existing component, display dynamic content, or even fetch data from external systems. Modules are not limited in number — you can install and use as many as needed to support your site’s objectives.
