Why Give?

Your support is essential in bringing the U.S. National Water Safety Action Plan (USNWSAP) to life, driving real, sustainable change in drowning prevention.

Drowning is preventable but underfunded. Every day in the U.S., 11 lives are lost to drowning—most of these tragedies are preventable with better water safety measures, including education, awareness, and implementation of the layers of protection.

  • The U.S. National Water Safety Action Plan (USNWSAP) is a call for collective action.  It represents a coordinated, 10-year national strategy designed to empower communities to create evidence-based, locally relevant water safety action plans.  The Plan offers a clear path forward to reduce drowning rates nationwide.
  • Comprehensive and collaborative, the Plan focuses on six key areas of action, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive, sustainable approach. These areas include:
    • Lifeguarding and Supervision
    • Data and Surveillance
    • Life Jackets
    • Water Safety, Water Competency, and Swim Lessons
    • Barriers, Entrapment, and Electrocution
    • Rescue and CPR
  • The USNWSAP brings together diverse voices: experts, families affected by drowning, public health professionals, manufacturers, and community leaders. It is a call for collaboration—no single organization or sector can solve this alone.

How your Support Helps:

Your donation will advance the USNWSAP in three critical areas:

  1. Technical Support for State and Local Planning Efforts:  Funding helps create educational resources and tools to support communities in developing water safety plans and strategies tailored to their unique needs, in turn creating more effective solutions. Examples include Office Hours, webinars, video content, and the development of key resource documents such as From Reflection to Action, Phase 1: Guidance on Doing a Reflection Exercise to Support Action Planning.
  2. Information, Technology, and Data:  Donations enhance the Plan’s digital tools and platforms, ensuring seamless access to resources, including a searchable Recommendations database, future database build-outs for the National Implications and a National Research Agenda, and the addition of an interactive map outlining the progress of state and local planning efforts across the U.S. Coupled with integrated forms, analytics, and feedback tools for progress reporting and planning, the Plan’s technology resources will provide comprehensive, user-friendly solutions to empower vested parties nationwide.
  3. Partnership Development and Engagement:  Your support fosters collaboration and creates opportunities for state and community leaders to actively engage and access resources towards the development of their own local strategies, amplifies the Plan’s impact by addressing areas such as the National Implications, and supports the formation of content-specific working groups.
