My wife and I hired VKB to finish our basement as well as renovate our primary bathroom and laundry room. Our house was originally built in 2009 and it had a lot of opportunity for improvement. The basement was a large, unfinished space and the primary bathroom and laundry had inefficient layouts. We are glad that we decided to improve our home with VKB because the final result greatly exceeded our expectations. Below is a summary of the different departments we worked with over the course of our renovation:
-Connor with sales (5/5). Our first point of contact with VKB was Connor. From the first phone call, he was professional and engaging. He actively listed to how my wife and I wanted to improve our home. Initially, we thought that the free estimate was going to be a quick scan of our home with a general price quote, but Connor carefully measured each space and drew up extremely detailed plans that walked through every detail in every space. Every point was based on our home improvement goals and he carefully explained the proposed plan over an hour-long meeting. Furthermore, Connor was responsive and answered all of our questions throughout the entire renovation process and helped coordinate a few additional home improvement projects that came up such as improving our stair case and fixing a rotten board in our garage.
-Design Team (5/5). We worked with Haley and Kianna to make the selections that would be implemented in our home. The choices for flooring, paint, trim, vanities, fixtures, toilets, cabinets, etc were overwhelming but they made the selection process fun and offered their professional insight for aesthetic appeal. Friends and family have visited our home and complimented the selections.
-Carpentry (5/5)- the carpentry and onsite lead teams were diligent, friendly and professional. A few family members are engineers and they were impressed by the quality of the framing work. If we had questions or concerns along the way, they were excellent contacts and resolved any issues.
-Subcontractors (5/5)- plumbing, electrical, HVAC, dry wall teams were awesome. Each team was approachable and detail oriented with their respective roles. Any minor issues noticed along the way were fixed.
-Project Management (4.5/5)- The people on the project management team (5/5) were always immediately responsive. Any issues that came up during the project were immediately addressed and corrected. The management team followed along closely with routine inspections and frequent communications. VKB is also using an app called Buildertrend (4/5) to guide the renovation. This app lists scheduled details of the renovation plan and offers a means of communication with all teams involved. It is also shows daily progress reports with pictures. My wife and I enjoyed looking at this frequently throughout the project. This seems to be a relatively new program for VKB and we observed a few miscommunications along the way that resulted in delays and rework for change orders that were made before the project began. From our experience throughout the renovation, VKB has room for improvement with how the app is utilized for communication between all teams.
Other thoughts- I work third shift. Although it was a challenge working third shift during the renovation, all teams were respectful of my schedule and did their absolute best to minimize interruptions to my unusual schedule. Also, we have a dog and the dog made a lot of new friends by the end of the project!
Over the past few months, my wife and I have experienced the massive undertaking that is a home renovation. As expected with any large renovation, there is a lot of dust and potential for minor issues and delays; however, the people we worked with at VKB from beginning to end were fantastic. We recommend VKB because the end result of the renovation is exceptional.
