Violin Lessons in Cobh and surrounds
In 2017 we relocated to Ireland. We are now in Cobh, 30 minutes outside Cork City; teaching violin and offering viola and theory of music as before.
We lost our guitar teacher, my beloved husband Iain, in 2017. R.I.P beautiful soul. Your heroism saved our lives…
I have not had the heart to change our studio website.
I have left the rest of the “About” page as before (below); we have not yet had a studio concert or exams session in Ireland. My students, few as they are, are doing well, having started last year. With luck we may have a concert in June.
History of the Studio:
Violin, viola, guitar and theory of music lessons.
We have been teaching students in South Africa music since 1998. Our studio is based on the principle that music is good for you and an essential part of human nature. Over the years, we have taught little beginners and adult beginners; young children that have advanced through the levels very fast and advanced students who come to us to receive a polish or who took lessons with us for many years.

Lessons are 1:1; however groups are available when there is enough demand, essentially to strengthen what has been learnt in the single lessons.
Junior Orchestra and ensembles

For a number of years we had a Junior Orchestra going every Saturday morning. This will be re-established once there is enough demand in our new location.
Concerts, Ceilidhs and other performances
It is the Studio’s policy to create as many opportunities for our students to perform, as we can. 2 Studio Concerts are a yearly standard, accompanied by a number of other musical functions known to us as Ceilidhs. Our Ceilidhs do not take place in pubs or other places but, being child-friendly, in people’s homes. We have never had a problem with a Ceilidh causing unpleasantness. Our students and also the parents enjoy the Ceilidhs very much.

Concerning this blog:
This blog was created as a news and extras page for my studio site; here I talk to my students, their parents, our friends and supporters and fellow musicians about upcoming events, issues, and other things.
I hope I won’t talk about issues too much.
I also post updates here about concerts and other functions; however, if you aren’t sure what is happening, call me.
If you are a violin student, teacher, player or listener who is not part of my studio, you may still find this blog amusing to read, and might even pick up tips… though I’m sure you’ve heard them from your teacher, too.
About me:
I’m a writer, musician, mother and entrepreneur, originally from South Africa. I’m also a loudmouth with foot-in-mouth disease, so if I offend you with a post or a comment, please forgive – it is probably unintentional. I comment a lot, so feel free to invite me to your blog if I haven’t yet found it.
