| It doesn't take long for Jinyoung and Yugyeom to move in on their next assistance. After all, Jaebum very clearly said he was on the prohibited list, but not any of the other members, right? So what's a good nymph and incubus to do when a bandmate is so obviously having trouble dealing with innate sexual desires - aka: being a teenager?
"I... don't think that's a good idea," Youngjae says uncertainly.
This confuses Yugyeom, because he used his most Alluring voice and even Jaebum had barely been able to resist. This confuses Jinyoung, too, because he almost forgot that they were, in fact, trying to seduce Youngjae.
"But hyung," Yugyeom whines in that careful whining-but-I-want-to-ravage-you tone that only incubi can use. Jinyoung is very ready to strip at the drop of a hat. The hat, in fact, is part of his attire for the day and he dropped in hours ago.
"Jalla says it's a bad idea," Youngjae continues.
"Jalla?" Jinyoung asks. They never pegged Youngjae to be the type for imaginary friends.
"He's my friend," Youngjae tells them like he's letting them in on a secret. "Not sure if you can see him... no? Alright. Jalla says I shouldn't sleep with you."
Yugyeom feels a breath on the back of his neck. Probably Jinyoung, who really can't keep his hands off him. "That really doesn't explain anything, hyung-"
"-oh god if you keep using that voice can we just fuck here and now-"
Youngjae scratches the tip of his nose. Yugyeom can't shake off the feeling that Youngjae's looking at something over his shoulder. "Jalla's a horse. I met him when I was a kid. I was camping with my classmates and they led me deep into the woods to ra- to fu- to. Uh. Play with me. Jalla found me and led me back to the campsite."
There seems to be a hole in the details of Youngjae's story. Yugyeom's instincts are telling him that those details are important. "And what happened to your friends?"
Youngjae shrugs. "He gave them a ride on his back. All of three of them. Jalla's a great big horse, he can carry three people at once. And he rode off with them into the lake. Jalla can breathe underwater, you see? He said whenever someone tries to play with me like that, I can ask him to help me so he can take them out for a ride."
It takes exactly one instant for Yugyeom to realize that the breath on the back of his neck smells distinctly musky. Horselike. "Um."
"I think," Jinyoung says carefully, "that we should leave Youngjae alone."
Yugyeom agrees, nods, bows to Youngjae and apologizes for taking his time.

| So the Philippines was very recently hit by a strong typhoon.
I am fortunate in that I'm safe, my family is safe, my friends are safe. However: 1) the typhoon caused a lot of property damage 2) I have colleagues we were not as lucky
I've been involved in a few clean-up efforts, both personal and organized.
Meaning what we have right now is a verocity who has very little free time and expendable energy on his hands. Meaning I haven't been able to write in the past couple of weeks.
I'll do my best to post the next chapter of Tacenda next week. Please stay tuned~

| The realization almost literally knocks Junho off his feet.
Maybe it's the way Wooyoung cracks a joke and his eyes dart awkwardly at Chansung right before he says the punchline. Maybe it's how Chansung's laugh starts frail before developing that full-body shrillness that makes him sound like a hyena.
Or maybe it's the coffee.
It can be any of those – it doesn't matter, Junho sits weakly on the couch and tries to keep his expression guarded.
"You okay?" Minjun asks, only slightly concerned.
"Yeah, I'm just-" Junho shakes his head "-yeah."
"You're not hungry, man?" he asks quietly.
Chansung raises his head and chews through a mouthful of rice. "Hmm?"
"You're not eating off my plate," Junho explains, hinting and ultimately failing at subtlety. "I'm not used to ordering for two and just eating for one."
Chansung shrugs perfectly relaxed. "I'm on a diet."
"We're supposed to be carbo-loading for the concert."
"I'm supposed to take my shirt off," Chansung answers back. "It's what I get paid for, right?"
"You're paid to dance and rap," Junho points out.
Chansung's laugh is sarcastic. "If only that were true."
Taec is seven months too late to do anything about it, three months too slow to notice, and one month away from tearing his hair off in frustration.
"You don't think I noticed?" Taec tells Junho with a deep sigh. "I've been trying to solve the problem for months."
"Maybe it's not a problem," Junho offers. It doesn't feel like a problem. Not to him. Chansung can still laugh, that must mean everything's okay with the world.
Taec shakes his head and dives back into his spreadsheets.
Junho stops just outside Chansung's room. There are people talking inside.
"Are you okay?" Wooyoung asks. Junho knows his friend enough to tell that this is a moment of vulnerability.
"I'm always okay," Chansung answers confidently. "You know me."
"Yeah, I do," Wooyoung admits. A sharp breath. Wooyoung speaks softly that Junho strains to hear it. "I'm allowed to ask. I'm allowed to be your friend. You're so brave and quiet. I forget that you're suffering inside."
"Hyung," Chansung chides him, careful to project lightheartedness. Careful to keep Wooyoung away even as they sit an inch apart.
"I'm sorry," Wooyoung says. Junho hurts for them. "I can't-"
"I never asked you to," Chansung assures him. "I never will. Because you can't. I won't do that to you."
Wooyoung laughs. There's pain beneath the peals. "You're being a better friend to me than I can ever be to you."
"Hyung. Wooyoung." Chansung breathes deeply. Draws courage from where, Junho has never known, but Chansung's courage is infallible. "I'm only going to say it this last time then let's bury it in the past. I-"
There's only one thing Chansung can say. Junho lets him say it with the honor of privacy.
"Are you okay?" Khun asks when Junho barges into his room.
Junho practically sprinted over from Chansung's door, he's catching his breath and Khun is looking at him oddly. "I'm okay, hyung. Everything's fine."
Khun blinks, a punctuation of thought. "That's a loaded statement."
From outside, Junho hears Chansung crack a joke followed by Wooyoung's muffled laughter. Junho calms his breathing and says, "Maybe I'm not the one we should be asking about being okay."
He steels his nerves and goes out to be a better friend. |
