Snowman
The Snowman (JP: ゆきだるま) is a minor character in Undertale. Appearing in Snowdin, they offer a Snowman Piece to the protagonist in hopes of them taking it far away.
The Snowman is a simple snowman rooted to the ground. They wear a permanent smile with a carrot nose, and three black buttons are present down the middle. They only appear deformed after taking Snowman Pieces from them during the Genocide Route, and once three pieces are taken, they are reduced into a snow pile with a carrot on top of it.
Since they cannot move from their spot, the Snowman wishes to see the wider world. They offer a piece of themself to the protagonist to substitute for their lack of mobility. If the protagonist consumes or otherwise loses their piece, the snowman no longer trusts them with one and starts to feel hopeless as a result.[1]
The Snowman is present north of the room following Doggo's sentry station. They introduce themself as a snowman who cannot move and offer a piece of themself to the protagonist. If the protagonist accepts the offer, the snowman wishes them luck. If the Snowman Piece is lost, they become upset but give another one to the protagonist. If the protagonist loses the second piece, they refuse to give another one, saying that there will be nothing left of them if they keep going.[1] They become offended if the piece is eaten right in front of them, refusing to give another one to the protagonist.[2]
If the Snowman Piece is in the protagonist's inventory at the end of the Neutral Route, Sans informs the protagonist they "made a snowman really happy".
At the end of the True Pacifist Route, the Snowman thanks the protagonist for taking care of their piece and asks them to take it to the surface. However, if the protagonist had eaten the Snowman Piece in front of them, they accuse them of mocking them for their lack of mobility and says that despite everyone thinking they are a good person, the Snowman knows how cruel they really are.[3]
On the Genocide Route, the protagonist can forcefully take up to three Snowman Pieces until they regress the Snowman into a "useless pile of snow".[4] However, Sans still informs them about the Snowman being really happy at the end of an aborted Genocide Route if the protagonist has at least one Snowman Piece in their inventory.
