Charles

Charles[note 1][1] is a minor character in Undertale. He[note 2] sits at one of the tables at the MTT Resort's restaurant, across from the oni.

Profile

Appearance

Charles is a small monster resembling a mole, with a pink nose and pink feet. He wears a pale-yellow hard hat with a green cross at the center.

Personality

Charles enjoys working at his job. He especially enjoys puzzles, which he refers to as "puzzle".[2][3] He looks forward to his next raise and expresses disappointment that the barrier broke right after he got one at the end of the True Pacifist Route.

Main story

Neutral Route

Charles is one of the workers at the CORE. He explains how the CORE's maze is composed of swappable parts, and that he had a fun day at his job.[2] If Mettaton is killed, he and the other workers receive money from an unknown source.[3]

True Pacifist Route

During the True Pacifist Route epilogue, he is distraught that he may lose his job right after he received a raise. He appears to remain positive and optimistic, however.[4]

Outside of Undertale

An NPC resembling Charles makes an appearance in Deltarune as a patron of QC's Diner.

Notes

  1. Internally referred to as spr_npc_charles in the game files, but this character is not named in game.
  2. This article uses he/him pronouns for Charles in accordance with a comment Aaron makes in Deltarune. There are no instances of Charles using these pronouns in Undertale.
