Employment

Offers adults 18 and older FREE in person or virtual driver’s education classes to prepare and assist individuals with obtaining their drivers permit and driver’s license. Adults whose driving privilege is valid (have no suspension and are eligible to obtain a permit) are eligible for the classes. Those who take the classes and obtain their permit may be eligible for FREE behind- the-wheel lessons and the permit fee reimbursement if they are eligible for FoodShare.

Driver’s License Permit Class

More safe drivers are on the road thanks to Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s Driver’s License Permit class. Individuals 18 and older can get on the road to success and more job opportunities when successfully completing this program.

Road Ready Youth Drivers’ Education (RRYDE)

Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s FREE Road Ready Youth Driver’s Ed prepares teens 15½–17 to earn their permit. Program includes reckless driving session, orientation, classroom hours, and behind-the-wheel training.

General Employment

Offers adult employments services, which include assessment, coaching, and follow up with individuals seeking employment opportunities, training, job readiness, and job placement, focusing on careers, sustainability, and sustainability with the chance to earn a living wage.

AT&T Connected Learning Lab

Greater Milwaukee Urban League Technology Information Center offers students, adults, staff, and group/individual assistance with online employment applications, resumes, cover letters, aligned job searches, career assessment and training, and TABE testing.

Microsoft Office Suites Certification-Youth, Adult, & PD

GMUL offers Microsoft Office Specialist Certification, a top credential proving skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and Access. This program is open to youth (13–17), adults (18+), and business professionals looking to boost their professional development and tech skills.

Proficient Edge Job Skills Program

Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s Job Essential Skills Program prepares individuals 14+ for success with career readiness and exploration. Participants build soft skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management—key tools for thriving in today’s workforce.

Level UP – Job Ventures for Youth

The level up job fair is geared to prepare youth with necessary essential skills, such as soft skills, professional dress attire, and how to conduct themselves in professional environments while providing youth with information to be successful in gaining employment. After the students have learned these skills, they are provided with an opportunity to use them the same day by interacting with employers who have employment opportunities. This event also includes our job developer making sure to establish and maintain relationships with employers and community organizations to develop employment opportunities and support the hiring of youth we serve at GMUL.

Transform Milwaukee Jobs (TMJ)

The Transform Milwaukee Jobs (TMJ) Program is a State Subsidized program which is designed to assist individuals with barriers to employment such as a criminal background (Misdemeanor and/or Felony charge), a child support order, or just a lack of work history.

Essentially, the TMJ Program offers employment training and coaching for individuals who are experiencing difficulties entering and succeeding in the workforce. It helps to create a solid pathway to entry level, career, or entrepreneurial opportunities.
