The Zoho that lies beyond what you now see: Zoho One
Zoho's instant messaging app, Arattai , has seen an unprecedented surge in usage recently, thanks to the 'Use Homegrown Tech' trigger from the Union Ministers of the Indian Government. This has resulted in Zoho , the company, and its cloud applications garnering newfound visibility through this wave. Curiosity about Zoho is at a peak with questions posed about Zoho's roots, the breadth and depth of applications, including — will it go public ever?
Sridhar Vembu, our Chief Scientist, and Mani Vembu, our CEO for India, recently shared why Zoho won’t go public. And it ties directly into how we think about products like Arattai, and the much larger vision of building a comprehensive set of unified applications that can serve as an operating system for businesses. Zoho One, our all-in-one application suite, is a culmination of this vision.
Arattai began as what many called a “hopelessly foolish” project. Launching amidst established market leaders, even our own people doubted if it would gain traction and be a market differentiator. But we built it anyway. Not because it promised quick profits, but because we believe everyone needs access to this kind of deep engineering capability, the kind you don’t usually see outside Silicon Valley.
That same principle drives Zoho One . While Arattai connects people, Zoho One connects entire businesses. It’s the hidden foundation of 50+ apps unified into one operating system. The depth of Zoho you may not see at first glance.
And the reason we can do this? Because Zoho is independent. We’re not chasing quarterly numbers or public market pressure. We’re building for the long term. Nearly 28 years of patient, frugal, R&D-driven building.
From disparate tools to a unified platform
There’s a difference between using tools and running on a unified platform system. Tools help you solve a problem. Systems help you solve how problems connect.
Most businesses today run on a patchwork of apps—one for sales, another for HR, yet another for accounting. Each tool works in isolation, but the gaps between them create friction. Data gets stuck. Teams duplicate effort. Growth slows down.
Zoho One drastically reduces that burden. It’s a single stack where every app is designed to talk to each other. Conversations flow into leads. Leads flow into deals. Deals generate invoices. Support is looped in seamlessly.
It’s not just software, but the structure.
Built over decades, not days
Zoho wasn’t built overnight. It’s the foundation of almost 28 years of intentional andindependent building. Long before integrated SaaS became a buzzword, we were quietly laying down the pipes that connect sales to finance, marketing to support, people to processes.
That’s why Zoho One feels inevitable, not improvised. Zoho One is about unification, not merely integration. A system that functions as a whole while its parts work in unison. It’s not a response to a trend, but the natural outcome of decades of focus on integration, unification, and depth.
Clearing the air
Alongside curiosity about Arattai and Zoho One, there are also questions—where is Zoho developed? Where is data hosted? Who controls it?
There’s a lot of misleading information out there, so here’s the truth:
1. Built in India. Global reach. All Zoho products are developed in India. Our global headquarters is in Chennai, and we pay taxes in India on our global income. At the same time, we are a global company with offices in over 80 countries and a strong presence in the US, one of our largest markets.
2. Data stays local. Indian customer data is hosted in India (Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai, with Odisha coming soon). Worldwide, we have 18+ data centers, each hosting customer data in its own jurisdiction. For example, the data of customers from the European region (EU), is stored in the EU data center, and so on.
3. Fully owned stack. All our services run on hardware we own and frameworks we built, on top of open-source components like Linux and PostgreSQL.
4. No AWS or Azure dependence. Zoho products, including Arattai, are not hosted on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. We may use them for regional switching nodes to speed up traffic, but customer data is never stored there.
We are proudly - Made in India, Made for the World; and we mean it.
The bigger story
So, while Arattai may have triggered a massive wave propelled by Indian patriotism, the grander vision is to build world class applications made in India, for the world. Zoho One is a result of this larger story, and it is also still maturing as a unified suite of applications. Not just tools, but an operating system for business.
Beyond chat. Beyond Office apps. Zoho One includes applications for: chat, email, office, sales, marketing, finance, HR, and beyond.
Zoho One is the foundation beneath—the Zoho you may not know.
So, take a dive and explore the depths of Zoho.

Quite interesting read about the empire, slowly growing, without eager to catch but build something from scratch...
It's inspiring to see how far Arattai has come despite initial skepticism. Against all odds, Arattai is getting the recognition it deserves and pushing boundaries. Can't wait to see how it evolves.☺️
