This app offers a space for public debate as an alternative to Twitter, focusing more on text than on images like Instagram does. In this way, you can start conversations with other Instagram users and discover new ideas.

When you write a new message, you have a limit of up to 500 characters per post at your disposal, more than enough space to develop complex ideas, share a funny thought, or simply give your opinion. In addition to plain text, you can attach image galleries, add web links that generate automatic previews, and upload video clips of up to five minutes. As with alternatives like X (Twitter), Bluesky, or Mastodon, the system organically encourages the creation of narrative threads, so you can chain dozens of consecutive messages if you need to tell a much longer story, create a step-by-step tutorial, or break down a detailed and structured opinion for your followers.

Feed management and recommendation algorithms

When navigating the main screen, you will find two distinct viewing tabs to tailor content consumption to your personal preferences. On one hand, there's algorithm-based content that mixes popular accounts and trending topics based on your previous interactions, which is ideal for discovering new profiles, where you can see what they post, what they repost, and what they reply to. On the other hand, if you prefer absolute control over what you read, you can switch to a strict chronological feed that exclusively shows posts from the people you already follow, ordered from newest to oldest, ensuring you don't miss a single update from your close circle.

Interaction and community mechanics

When interacting with other posts, you will have the classic social media actions at your disposal, allowing you to like, reply directly to the message, quote the original text while adding your own comment, or simply repost the content to share it on your own feed. Mentions of other users are seamlessly integrated, and you can configure who has permission to tag you. The entire contact ecosystem is directly linked to your pre-existing profile on Meta's photo network, making it easy for you to instantly import all your friends and start interacting from the very first second without having to build an audience or find friends from scratch.

Moderation settings and word filters

To keep your dashboard free of noise or unwanted topics, there's an advanced settings menu where you can set strict limits on public conversation. You have the ability to mute entire profiles without needing to unfollow them, block problematic users, and activate automatic filters to hide any replies that contain specific words, phrases, or emojis that you've added to a custom blacklist. These options give you direct moderation control over your own posts, allowing you to decide whether anyone on the platform can reply, whether only the profiles you follow have that right, or whether replies are restricted to only the accounts you mentioned in the text.

Progressive integration with the Fediverse

At the network infrastructure level, you have the option to enable compatibility with the ActivityPub protocol, opening the door to decentralized communication with other servers. By activating this feature from your account settings, you make your public messages visible on compatible external platforms, and in turn, you can receive interactions from users who don't even have the official app installed.

My experience with Threads

After logging in with my Instagram account, the first thing I saw was the suggested content panel based on the algorithm, where I could see content from my favorite photographers and travelers in the Alps. I also came across some funny and viral messages, many of which were just text. I also tried viewing the posts in chronological order so that I would only see the most recent content from people I follow, which allowed me to be much more in touch with the people I care about. I also took a look at other people's profiles to see what they were posting and reposting, so I could get an idea of what was on their minds. In general, this platform worked quickly and showed quality content. And the dark theme was 100% black, ideal for use on OLED displays.

What I liked most about Threads and what could be improved

· What I liked the most: the ease of viewing content from your favorite Instagram accounts, being able to quickly switch between an algorithmic feed and a strictly chronological one, and the dark mode, which is ideal for OLED screens.

· What I would improve: the native integration of direct messages, as the platform forces reliance on other external apps to maintain private conversations between two users.
