Welcome to My Store

Whilst I have my own range of online training I also wanted to be able to offer something physical and tangible for people to wear and use. Because sometimes you just have to let your stuff do the advocating for you!

Whether you're buying for yourself, or for a gift, everything available in my store is perfect for people who want to change the autism narrative; one t-shirt, hoodie and gift at a time.

Everything in my store here has been inspired by my work and the words I've written over the years in my online articles and within my autism training.

However, I'm no designer or artist! So I've worked with a small, amazing team of graphic designers and artists to create this range of products. Each artist owns the copyright to their design and they receive money from each sale, making our store a true collaboration.

Each design helps advocate for changes to the current deficit-driven autism narrative (and to that end you won't find a puzzle piece anywhere on these products).

My Designs

The Cause of Autism? It's in Your jeans

This design reads: The cause of Autism? It's in your jeans.

This fun design reminds people that the 'cause' of autism is genetic, so it's definitely in your jeans! There are a few different versions of this design which you'll see inside of the store.

So the next time someone asks you about the causes of autism you can just smile and let them know it's 'jean-etic'

Infinitely Autistic

'Infinitely Autistic' is a phrase I came up with to represent that autistic people are autistic from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes; it's who they are and can't be separated from them.

It's also a nod to the fact that Autistic people have always been, and will always be, part of the beautiful diversity of human experience.

In some designs the the logo is in gold, a colour often linked with autism as it represents 'Au' the chemical symbol for gold. In other designs the logo takes on the colours of the Pride Rainbow flag to represent being autistic and queer.

The infinity loop, which is often used to represent autistic people (and is part of the The Autistic Advocate logo) is also subtly there in the lettering style too.

To the Autistic Person Behind Me...I see You...

The design reads: "To the Autistic person behind me... I see you... love from the Autistic person in front of you"

There is often a moment of recognition which passes between Autistic people and this design gently acknowledges that. Sometimes it just takes being seen, and recognised for the wonderful Autistic individual that you are, to brighten your day and make you feel valid and valued.

For some versions the design is in gold, a colour often linked with autism as it represents 'Au' the chemical symbol for gold. In other versions the design takes on the colours of the Pride Rainbow flag to represent being Autistic and queer.

These designs are all printed on the reverse of the item.

Perfectly Whole Autistic People

The design reads: "Autistic people are not broken neurotypical people. We are perfectly whole Autistic people."

A simple message, but such an important one when Autistic people still suffer greatly from living within a medicalised, 'broken and fix' narrative.

These designs are all printed on the reverse of the item.

I feel invincible, with my headphones on

The design reads: "I feel Invincible, with my headphones ON"

The phrase is taken from the lyrics of the Matt Nathanson song; 'Headphones'. It reminds me of my youngest autistic kiddo who always wears their headphones; they're a part of their identity! Each time I hear this song it makes me smile and think of my kiddo and I'm sure they're not the only autistic person who is never without their headphones!

The design is in gold, a colour often linked with autism as it represents 'Au' the chemical symbol for gold.

Why I chose Teemill for my store

First and foremost Teemill is a UK business, the same as The Autistic Advocate so it allows me to to support another UK business. They often run free shipping which means I can pass that saving onto you.

Teemill ships internationally and offers hassle free returns.

I also loved that every product they make is designed to come back to them when you no longer want to wear it. It will then be remade into a new garment. You can find out more about Teemill here: https://teemill.com/about-teemill

MY BOOK

AUTISTIC MASKING - Understanding Identity Management and the Role of Stigma

Dr Amy Pearson & Kieran Rose

The must read Autistic Making book from Kieran Rose and Dr Amy Pearson. No 1 Amazon bestseller in 3 categories.

Masking is a form of identity management involving consciously or unconsciously suppressing aspects of identity and action. Often seen in socially marginalised groups, it is found to contribute towards poorer outcomes for autistic people, and is related to higher prevalence of suicidality, exhaustion and burnout, and mental health difficulties. Autistic Masking offers a holistic understanding of the most up-to-date evidence in this field, with the aim of developing solid knowledge and practice in health, education and society.

Written to be accessible to everyday readers with an interest in autism as well as academics and professionals, the book deconstructs the predominant misconception that masking is purely a social strategy to ‘blend in’ with neurotypical (non-autistic) people. The authors consider the social context that facilitates impression management, including an individual’s response to stigma or trauma, and take an intersectional approach to exploring how autistic identity may interact with other aspects of selfhood.

Not in need of a t-shirt or gift, but still found my website useful?

I know not everyone wants, or needs to buy one of my training courses or an item from my store, but I often find people will read one of my free articles and want to say ‘thank you’ (and this is really appreciated as they’re a lot of work to write!)

Buying me a virtual coffee is a really easy way to say thanks.

It also supports me to keep being able to create new, free content and also keep my older, free content up-to-date. It also allows me to keep my website ad-free.

My Autism FAQs page is a good place to start if you’re new to my work and want to explore more. Thanks for your support, Kieran.

JOIN KIERAN'S MAILING LIST (for infrequent, but useful, updates!)

And, as a thank you for joining, you'll get a 10% off code emailed to you which you can use on Kieran's on-demand autism training
