The Advoc8 Framework

For people who work with, and support, Autistic people of all ages

Equipping you to be a more knowledgable and reflective professional

The Advoc8 Framework

The Advoc8 Framework has been created by me (Kieran Rose, The Autistic Advocate) to develop increased knowledge (in both breadth and depth) in eight areas surrounding autistic people and the experiences of autistic people.

Within the Advoc8 Framework these issues and areas are known as 'The 8 Pillars of The Advoc8 Framework'

It also allows for more reflective practice from people who work with Autistic people in a professional capacity.

Why use the Advoc8 Framework in your professional practice?

By increasing your knowledge across The 8 Pillars of The Advoc8 Framework you will be better equipped to support the autistic individuals you work with to achieve the objectives i.e. The 4 A’s ofthe Framework which are Acceptance, Agency, Autonomy and Authenticty.

When autistic people have more acceptance of their identity, more agency in decisions which impact them, more autonomy over their own lives and a greater ability to live authentically these all have positive impacts on their life outcomes.

The Advoc8 Framework is an entirely new way of supporting Autistic people throughout their lifespans and can be implemented in all types of settings and practices.

"When autistic people have more acceptance of their identity, more agency in decisions which impact them, more autonomy over their own lives and a greater ability to live authentically these all have positive impacts on their life outcomes."

Read my book

In my 2023 book with Dr Amy Pearson; Autistic Masking, Understanding Identity Management and the Role of Stigma I discuss The Advoc8 Framework in more detail in Chapter 12. In this chapter I explain more about each of the 8 Pillars of the Framework and explain the importance of each of the objectives (The 4As) of the Framework.

I was explaining The Advoc8 Framework in my training prior to 2023 as I introduced and developed the concept; but my book is the first time it was referenced publicly.

Arrange a training day

In one day, in-person training day with me I cover each of the 8 Pillars of The Framework in detail.

I can also offer an additional 'Reflective Practice' day to compelement the one day training. The Reflectice Practice day is more of a collaborative, teamwork day where delegates build their own personal Advoc8 Frameworks for both their own professional practice and, where relevant, their service areas.

During this say we look at the 8 Pillars and the 4As of The Advoc8 Framework in relation to the specific roles of the professionals in the room.

Just a note of caution: If you choose to work with me, you can expect to be honestly and directly challenged to do better and you can expect that you will have a lot to learn, no matter how good you think your knowledge base is, or your services are. As I train you across the 8 Pillars of The Advoc8 Framework you will see gaps in your knowledge and you will find ways you can improve the life outcomes of the Autistic people you support and care for.

You can find out more about the training I offer, and contact me, via my Work With Kieran page.

Please note:

I have seen the Advoc8 Framework described as 'The 5A's of Neuroaffirming Practice' and then linked directly to my work.

Whilst 'neuroaffirming practice' is a good description of the The Advoc8 Framework that's not what it is called and my framework has 4As and not 5As! I am always happy to provide clarity.

And I'm also always very happy to see my work referenced and being useful to people. If you would like reference The Advoc8 Framework and need clarity on how best to do this please contact michelle<at>theautisticadvocate.com and we'll be happy to support.

Frequently Asked Questions about The Advoc8 Framework

Some of the most commonly asked questions. If you have anything else you would like to ask please email us at michelle<at>theautisticadvocate.com

Is The Advoc8 Framework my original work?

Yes.

Many of the concepts covered in the 8 Pillars e.g. The Double Empathy Problem and Monotropism are not my concepts. And the ideas of Acceptance, Agency, Autonomy, Authenticity (i.e. the 4A's of the Advoc8 Framework) are not unique concepts.

However, what is my original thought is the way I have looked at many issues which impact on the lives of autistic people and developed a framework where better understanding of these issues can lead to improved life outcomes for autistic people.
