Cetirizine is a popular antihistamine that came into medical use in 1987 and is used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. It works by blocking histamine, a chemical the body releases during allergic reactions.
Available in tablet, liquid, and chewable forms, cetirizine is commonly used to treat hay fever, hives, and other allergic skin reactions. Notably, the formula is designed to cause less drowsiness than older antihistamines, adding to its popularity, with 14 million prescriptions in the US alone in 2022!
