Weekly Wrap Up – 16 December 2012

A few highlights of the week

A few highlights of the week

With another hugely busy week, it looks like the week before Christmas might actually be a quiet(er) one!

Smell the Roses

Squirm’s baptism and the lovely family and friends who all came to celebrate with us. Or meeting Mem Fox and Judy Horacek on Wednesday.

What I’ve Been Reading

The Baby Led Weaning Cookbook for myself. Mem Fox’s Good Night, Sleep Tight with Squirm.

What I’ve Been Doing

We started the week with Squirm’s baptism. Monday then found Squirm and I at Riverbend Bookstore catching up with an old friend before she goes for an adventure in Japan. Monday night brought a bit of a change to Squirm’s personality after we discovered his very first tooth coming through! On Wednesday we braved the great outdoors and went out to see Perks of Being a Wallflower at the movies, before heading to Chermside Library to hear Mem Fox and Judy Horacek speak (they were amazing). On Thursday we went down to Ikea to pick up Squirm’s first high chair and a few other things, before making our library visit for the week. Then we spent Friday at my old school and my current school being fed and finishing up the school year šŸ™‚ At the same time I indulged in some cooking, turning out some different dinners and even making bread for the first time!

Adventures of a Subversive Reader - Weekly Wrap Up

Oh what a busy week! I was going to wrap things up last night, but then I fell asleep feeding the baby!

Smell the Roses

Oh – the trip to Stradbroke Island was an absolute winner. It is such a beautiful place!

What I’ve Been Reading

The complete Trebizon school series for me, Christmas books with Squirm

What I’ve Been Doing

Mr Pilot and I took Squirm over to Stradbroke Island to meet up with a friend for her 40th birthday. Squirm also had his first dip in the ocean then. We had a Christmas party with friends on Sunday night, then suffered through two incredibly hot days. On Wednesday, we popped into the city to see Santa and also saw the Christmas windows and carollers and took a trip to the city library. Thursday was our ABA Christmas picnic and on Friday Mr Pilot stayed home to help get ready for Squirm’s baptism tomorrow!

Weekly Wrap Up – 30 November 2012

A few things from this week

Smell the Roses

So many good things this week! Yummy cupcakes, organic food, talking with wonderful people, sending out the invitations for Squirm’s Baptism, finding Squirm’s baptism outfit (thank goodness), and visiting an awesome library and art gallery!

On that last point, if you can get to Caboolture, go and check out their art gallery (next to the library). It is an amazing space and the exhibition I saw was absolutely brilliant – and is showing for another couple of weeks. The upcoming exhibitions also look really good, so I’m hoping to get up and see them soon.

What I’ve Been Reading

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and Kiss Me! by Carlos Gonzalos for me. Let’s Go, Baby-o! by Janet and Andrew McLean, My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall and Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle for Squirm

What I’ve Been Doing

After a really busy week last week, we took things a bit easier this week. On Monday I headed north to the much recommended Caboolture Library (which will be reviewed on Monday) before stopping by Spotlight (yay!) on the way home. Tuesday was the Bloggers Brunch and then over to Mother’s Direct to buy some books and a new carrier for Mr Pilot. Wednesday was calm (or not so much) at home, and yesterday I escaped the heat for a while in the shopping centre.

Favourite Blog Posts of the Week

  • Libraries are for Everyone – Even Babies : This isn’t a new article, it’s one I researched for a blog post earlier in the week. I love it!
  • I’d Be Happy to be a Scuba Diver by Mountains and Musings. This really resonated with me. I need a new phone (mine is 4 years old and dying), and a smart phone would be ideal, but I am worried about how wrapped up I would get with it
  • My Strict Magazine Rules from Edenland. This made me laugh so much! I am awful with this – I hate it when my husband flicks through my Good Reading magazine before I’ve read it from cover to cover. And don’t even ask what he and Squirm did to the Spotlight catalogue!
  • December Photo a Day by Fat Mum Slim. I’m doing this for the first time – maybe December isn’t the best month to try, what with Christmas and my birthday, but it’s totally worth a try!

Weekly Wrap Up – 23 November 2012

Nudgee Beach

Originally, I was doing a Smell The Roses post at the end of the week. I’m graduating that to a Weekly Wrap-up, mostly so I can talk about more. You can find Smell the Roses posts here.

Smell the Roses

This has been an extremely busy week, but there were two particular highlights. First was seeing my Aunt, who I hadn’t seen in over a year. We went to the library together, before going to visit my grandparents. The second highlight was going to see A Chorus Line which was AMAZING!

What I’ve Been Reading

Itsy-Bitsy Babies and Peggy with Squirm. Get Her Off the Pitch and Pro-Blogger for me.

What I’ve Been Doing

After a weekend of storms, my ‘working’ week started with a library visit to Chermside, which was amazing and I’ll review on Monday. I then braved the outside world on my own, leaving Squirm and Mr Pilot alone while I went to A Chorus Line. On Wednesday I went out with my sister and my parents for a great walk around the Nudgee Beach waterways. Then I met up with a group of Baby-wearing mums yesterday. Finally, I finished off by spending some quiet time at a cafe while Squirm finally slept. It was a very busy week!

Smelling the Roses: The Redcliffe Edition

Each week I post about something that makes me smile.

http://www.subversivereader.wordpress.com

Some days I forget how lucky I am to live where I live. Sure, those are usually the days when they neighbours are having a competition to see how loud they can yell expletives at each other. But then I remember how close I am to some truly awesome places. Like just an hour from my parents in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Half an hour out to gorgeous Dayboro. And about 20 minutes (if the lights go my way) to the stunning Redcliffe.

That’s where Squirm and I found ourselves this week. After visiting their magnificent library, we wandered the main street, then went for a short walk along the water. Absolutely stunning. Then we drove through Scarborough to come back home. It was well and truly worth getting stuck in the storm on the way home!

Smelling the Roses: The body and brain edition

Each week I’d like to post about something which is beautiful, or funny, or unexpected which has made me happy through the week.

weheartlife.com

There’s two things which have made me exceedingly happy this week. The first one is the wonderful IHeartMyBody day, which happened yesterday. The wonderful comments on my own post, and the amazing posts I was able to read yesterday really made me feel warm and wonderful inside.

Then there was my wonderful husband and the amazing gift he brought home for me this week – a brand new MacBook Pro, especially to help with my blogging. Best. Husband. Ever šŸ™‚

Smelling the Roses: The Napping Edition

Each week I’d like to post about something which is beautiful, or funny, or unexpected which has made me happy through the week.

Although Squirm’s been a great night sleeper since quite early, he’s not the best at going to sleep during the day. When he does sleep, it’s usually in the car or when he’s in the sling – which is often disrupted when we stop the car or move in a way that wakes him up. This means that he’s getting over tired a lot and that really makes the afternoon hard!

I’ve begun noticing when Squirm is heading towards a nap and trying to make it easier for him to sleep with soft music, slowing down, feeding etc. This week, he’s been sleeping during the day and it’s making such a difference! Now, if I could just learn how to sleep during the day . . .

Smelling the Roses: Great Service makes me happy

Each Friday I’d like to post about something which is beautiful, or funny, or unexpected which has made me happy through the week.

Yesterday was Mr Pilot’s birthday, and Squirm and I went into Brisbane city to have lunch with him. Before we met up for lunch, I had to do a bit of shopping.

I went into five different store and stopped for coffee (and to feed Squirm). At every one of those places, I had brilliant service, and two places in particular went far above and beyond basic customer service. Both times I left feeling uplifted.

So a big thanks to Pulp Fiction, the ABC shop, Typo and Brumbys in the city. And ENORMOUS thanks to Kikki K and T2 for making it such a nice day!

(Also, check out the gorgeous diaries from Kikki K – I bought one yesterday and now I’m itching for 2013 so I can start using it!)

Smelling the Roses: Warm Arms

Each Friday I’d like to post about something which is beautiful, or funny, or unexpected which has made me happy through the week.

I was all set to write about a really good cup of tea today. Until early this morning when my lovely Squirm fell asleep in my arms with a little smile on his face. That’s the moment which makes 4am all better.
