Primary

A stage for active, cooperative, and meaningful growth, fostering competencies and values for life.

A person-centered approach to learning

How do we work?

In Primary, we work with active methodologies: projects, cooperative learning, learning stations, interactive groups, and the ‘Ales de paper’ reading project. We support each student through dialogue, reflection, and personalized attention, respecting their pace and enhancing their abilities.

Cooperative Learning

Regarding classroom layout and groupings, all classrooms are organized with tables where students work in teams and utilize cooperative learning techniques.

Learning Stations

An active methodology that involves addressing a learning situation, a specific knowledge area, or part of a knowledge area through different activities. Students rotate through various stations to promote active and diversified learning.

Interactive Groups

These are heterogeneous groupings within the classroom where more than one adult facilitates student work. The most important aspect is not to separate students based on their difficulties, but to enhance their learning within the classroom. Once a term, we invite families to participate in these school-proposed activities where they act as moderators.

Assemblies

Assemblies are held daily to address cross-curricular topics and issues affecting the daily life of the class.

This is a routine we perform every day at the start of the school day where we share concerns, interests, resolve conflicts, and organize the day. It is a moment to foster and support oral expression and active listening.

‘Ales de paper’ Project

Every day, we dedicate 30 minutes to free reading in Valencian, Spanish, or English. This time helps us improve reading and reading comprehension, in addition to greatly enjoying children’s and young adult literature. The classroom library will feature all types of reading materials such as comics, newspapers, magazines, and books from different literary genres. As part of this project, once a week, students from the 1st and 3rd cycles engage in tandem reading, an activity where students who have consolidated their reading skills help and facilitate this reading space for students who are in the process of acquiring reading proficiency.

Classroom Materials

The teaching staff of the center develops the didactic materials, with the advice of the guidance department, to adapt the necessary resources to the diversity and learning pace of the students.

more than curricular teaching

How do we assess and manage homework at Som Escola?

Homework and Home Study

We advocate for the rationalization of homework and home study. Assigned tasks aim for information research or are more creative in nature. In the second and third cycles, a writing workshop is conducted with themes that foster creative writing, always related to the project.

Assessment

Assessment in Primary Education at Som Escola is continuous, formative, and focused on supporting learning. Based on daily observation, classroom work, and various activities, each student’s progress is evaluated, respecting their pace, effort, and personal development. The objective is to help them grow academically and personally in a cooperative, inclusive, and trusting environment.

Our assessment reports are qualitative, focusing on the holistic development of students:

  • Developmental and social aspects.
  • Progress, difficulties, and talents.
  • Areas for improvement and recommendations.

ICTs

At Som Escola, we make progressive and balanced use of new technologies to enhance real learning. From 2nd grade, we use Snappet, and from 4th grade, Chromebooks to work on mathematics, languages, research, and digital applications, adapted to each student’s pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is our approach to technology?2026-02-16T21:55:01+02:00

We believe that new technologies provide an innovative and interesting way to engage with content. They must always serve human beings and should not be used as a substitute for what students can learn through hands-on experience. For this reason, we teach how to use them in a balanced, educational, and responsible manner.

What materials are used in class?2026-02-16T21:53:32+02:00

At Som Escola, we use our own teaching materials. This approach not only offers cost savings but also ensures the content is adapted to the curricular requirements of each educational stage, aligns with the students’ pace, and is always kept up-to-date.
