Another Harness Project Update

  • Cut the nylon straps
  • Finish the ends of the nylon straps
  • Make three fabric straps for the fabric backing
  • Attach four nylon straps to the ring
  • Attach the fabric straps to the backing
  • Sew the front and back fabric pieces together
  • Put in the interfacing and sew it in place
  • Attach the waist buckle
  • Attach the slides to the two lower straps
  • Figure out where the lower straps should attach to the waistband
  • Sew them in place

Never underestimate the wondrous powers of ironing.

I’m finally starting the strap-on harness project. So far today I cut out all the pieces, and melted the ends of the nylon webbing so they won’t fray.

Thoughts so far:

I have to fold over and stitch down a narrow margin on various edges, and this microsuede fabric is a real pain to fold. I’m not sure if it’s safe to iron, and anyway I don’t own an iron, so now it’s wrapped in a towel and sitting underneath a pile of books. It seems like the fabric has some direction to it and the folding would’ve gone better if I’d cut these pieces out facing the other direction. Oops.

The interfacing is white and has a slightly rough surface, so I can draw on it with a regular old pencil! Very convenient.

My hips are a full three inches narrower than they used to be, but my natural waist is exactly the same (not that my waist measurement has anything to do with this project, but I was curious.) Bodies are weird.
