Greentown Glass Museum 04-26-2019 2
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
I lived in Kokomo, IN USA from 1976-1984, though from August 1980 to December 1984 I was away attending Purdue University. The area, along with nearby cities like Muncie (Ball Corporation), was a major cetner for glass production in the second half of the 1800s because of the abundance of natural gas.
Greentown is located about 10 miles to the east of Kokomo. We went there primarily for the county fair. However, the Indiana Tumbler & Goblet Company was formed there in February 1894 and quickly became a major producer of glassware. Unfortunately, on June 13, 1903, around noon, a fire broke out that destroyed the plant and effectively ended the company.
The museum is located in downtown Greentown, a very typical small, rural Indiana town, in the City Hall. This photo is the entrance to the museum and city hall offices.
Many thanks to the staff that were there that day and the great tour that I received.
