Starflight woke when Sunny got up to get ready for her first class. He didn't have a first period, but he found it impossible to sleep without being curled around his warm sandwing. He got up, and decided to go check in on the other's classes. He walked out of the cave, and made his way to Coltan's class. He popped his head in as he was introducing himself, and gasped a little when he saw that Coltan was curled around an egg while he was talking to the class.
When did that happen?
His wife laid a week ago, and now she's off running errands in the skywing kingdom.
How did I not meet his wife?
He didn't want to show her off, she's an introvert, and prefers being alone.
Is this how having dragonets here going to look?
Probably, I expect you will be spending a lot of time with yours and Sunny's eggs. Her classes are more active for her, and you're going to spending a lot of time in the school's quietest place.
Huh, good to know.
He nodded to Coltan when he glanced over, and made his way to the library. After he had settled behind his desk, he waited for the first-class period to end. The second class was a study hall, and soon enough a dozen or so students shuffled into the library.
“Hello class." He greeted them. “Before you all gasp and realize, yes, I can see now. For those that don't know, I was blinded during the night island evacuation. But, after some consideration, I decided to let Michael heal my eyes and here we are."
“Is it true you and Sunny are engaged?" Mindreader asked.
Starflight smiled. “Rumors travel fast I guess. Yes, Sunny and I are engaged to be married in a month. But we are having a small, quiet wedding, with a large afterparty. So if you happen to travel to the sand kingdom you are invited."
There was a chorus of 'congrats' and Starflight waved them away. “It's the second period of the first day, so I expect you not to have any assignments, unless you had Webs first period."
There was a groan.
“So, I am dismissing you for the day, go have fun." He added
The students thanked him, and all but one filed out of the room.
“I'm guessing you have work already?" Starflight turned to the hivewing who remained.
“No, I just like libraries." She replied.
Starflight walked over to a wall of scrolls, and picked one up.
“Here, try this one. It explains the history of where Clearsight came from."
The little hivewing gasped, and thanked him, then settled into one of the hammocks to start reading. Starflight settled back behind the desk, and sighed contentedly. The rest of the day went by mostly the same. Until the discussion period, when suddenly, groups of dragons wanted to talk to him. The first group came right after the discussion period started, and asked him about the prophecy. Then, right after the first group came, the second appeared.
What is going on? Michael? Starflight thought as the third group left.
The topic of today's discussion was “Talk to Starflight about the dragonet prophecy, and what it was like to be a dragonet of destiny. Be patient, only one winglet at a time. Then write what you have learned."
Tsunami must think she's hilarious.
She's laughing so hard right now.
Can you make the discussion topics?
We take turns.
Make the next one. “Ask Tsunami about being a princess of the seawing kingdom, and what it means to be an heir." That aught to mess with her.
Will do.
What ever happened to that trapped nightwing?
I've left her in the care of Ruby for now, if I were to remove the necklace it could break her mind. She's been trapped for a handful of years, longer than Hailstorm was, and with a stronger enchantment.
Your back?
Yes.
Another group walked in, and asked Starflight the topic of their discussion. Sunny was also with them, and was smirking as they listened with interest. The Pantalans were especially interested in the nightwing, as they were with all nightwings, because they all descended from one. Once Starflight had finished, the group thanked him, and left.
“What was that about?" Sunny asked.
“They made the first discussion about me." Starflight replied, and Sunny laughed.
“Of course they did."
“Michael's back."
Come find me, I have your clothes ready.
They nodded to each other, and made their way to Michael's cave.
“Wait, did you see all the winglets?" Sunny asked.
Starflight counted on his talons. “Yep, all five."
Sunny nodded. “Lucky."
They walked into Michael's cave, to find him working on two beautiful works of art that Starflight could barely call clothing.
“Starflight, your suit is an alteration of mine, because you and I have the same style. While Sunny's is different. My wife is dark purple in her usual draconic form, so she can pull of a similar look really easily. But for Sunny." He motioned to the dress. “I had to get creative."
Sunny walked up to the dress, and lightly touched it with her claws. “Is this for the wedding?"
“Not yours, no. This is for all the special events you will be attending." Michael told her.
Starflight looked his suit up and down, it had a yellow star on the chest, and a special cape designed to hide his wings. The cape itself was the exact color of the underside of his wings, and contained small glittering stars. Starflight noticed that the suit had yellow trim along the sides and back, along with a yellow rose sitting on the right side of its neck. Sunny's was a simple dress, but it had a very detailed design on it. Starflight could see hundreds of small black roses sewn all over the dress. They were curved in the most perfect design to show more detail out of the simple dress.
“This is beautiful." Sunny spoke. “Thank you."
“Aren't black roses a bad omen or something?" Starflight asked.
“The black roses and yellow trim are homages to each other. That is the usual tradition, to wear at least a little of the color of their mate or spouse at weddings." Michael told them. “At least, that's how it used to be. My suit is over there."
They looked over, and noticed a similar looking suit, but there was a dark purple flower, and there was no star on the front. But the biggest change, was the cape, it looked like a night sky, and it moved slightly, giving an illusion that it was a portal. The cape had a lot of purple and blue stars scattered within it.
“How did you do that cape?" Sunny asked. “It looks kinda like Fatespeaker's wings.
“That's a bit of visual magic I like to use sometimes." Michael replied.
Sunny nodded, and smiled over at Starflight. “I can't wait to see our wedding clothes."
“You will, privately. Usually, I don't let the couple see each other's attire before the wedding." Michael shrugged. “But one of you can stay and check it out if you want."
Starflight turned to Sunny, and could tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted to see her dress.
“I'll go, see you later." He kissed her cheek before walking out of the cave.
As he walked through the hall, he noticed that not a soul was around. There must be an assembly for the first day he thought. Starflight looked over and poked his head into the unused winglet rooms, he looked over and noticed a nightwing sitting on one of the beds.
“Bloodshed?"
The nightwing opened his eyes and looked over at Starflight.
“Are you okay?" He asked.
Bloodshed said nothing, he just sat there and stared at him.
“Why aren't you with everyone else?"
More silence, Starflight sighed and sat down next to him.
“I heard what happened with your parents, I'm sorry for your loss."
Bloodshed blinked in surprise.
Did he not expect anybody to know?
That, and he didn't expect anybody to care.
“Look, I don't know exactly how you feel, but I was abandoned by both my parents while I was still in an egg, and my sister is just now not trying to kill me."
Bloodshed looked away, and hid his face under his wing.
“Hey, I'm here for you, if you need me." Starflight got up, and walked out of the cave.
“Wait." A voice called.
Starflight turned around. “Yes?"
“I was wondering… If you could help me… There's this girl."
Starflight smiled at him. “Who is it?"
“Mindreader, she's in the copper winglet."
Starflight thought about the humorous nightwing Bloodshed was talking about. Ever since she gave up Darkstalker's bracelet, she had been feeling bad about the whole situation in which she got powers, and had been less talkative and has kind of separated herself from her winglet. Even when the copper winglet had come to see him, she sat away from them, and stayed out of the conversation.
She's walking down the hall behind you, also skipping the assembly.
Are you doing this?
She was already walking around with no destination, then she might have overheard me talking about how the unused winglets are places where nobody goes. Funny thing about that; I wasn't even there, I'm still here with Sunny. I just cast my voice so she would think I was there.
Starflight smirked as he looked over and spotted the female nightwing. She froze when she saw him, and he flicked his tail and pointed it right beside the entrance to the cave. She walked up and stood their silently.
“What do you like about Mindreader?" Starflight asked.
“She's kind, sweet, smart, like so smart. She's beautiful, and funny, and she brightens my day every time I see her, which isn't much." Bloodshed sighed, and sat back on the bed he was laying on.
“What do you need my help for?" Starflight replied.
“I don't know what to do, or how to talk to her. I feel like Lucid would mess it up just to spite me, and I don't know how she would react."
“Have you talked with her?"
“Sometimes, she's the only one here I could consider my friend, and I don't want to ruin that. We hung out a lot in the rainforest, but her being gone wasn't fun for me. We haven't talked since she came here."
Starflight glanced to Mindreader, her expression was of udder surprise. Almost as if she didn't expect for Bloodshed to have any emotion at all. She must have been entirely clueless about him.
“Well, I think I can help you."
Bloodshed visibly brightened. “You can?"
Starflight smirked and took a step to the side, Mindreader stepped into the cave, blushing heavily. Bloodshed froze, and covered his face with his wing.
Boom, now you know how I feel.
What?
I tend to help couples get together. I did it to you, I've been doing it for endless years.
Starflight stepped back, and Mindreader walked up and nudged away Bloodshed's wing.
“Hey." She greeted him.
Bloodshed was frozen, he was completely stunned, and looking straight into her eyes.
“I thought you hated me."
Bloodshed blinked. “I would never."
“I thought you were mad that I left, and that you didn't want to hang out anymore."
Mindreader sat down next to him.
“And when I heard you weren't talking, like, at all, I thought the last person you would want to speak to would be me."
Bloodshed shook his head. “I didn't want to talk to anybody because I don't want anything to do with them. I want to talk to you, but we never had a chance. You were the only reason I came here."
She gasped, and looked over at him. Starflight took this moment to leave, wondering how Sunny would feel about this situation.
How is she doing? He asked Michael
She loves her dress, and is inspecting it thoroughly.
Starflight smiled. Can't wait to see her in it.
Won't be long now.
He walked into his sleeping cave, and waited for Sunny to return.
“Star." A voice called.
Starflight opened his eyes, and looked up at Sunny. He had fallen asleep on the desk while waiting for her.
“Hey sweetie." He mumbled. “What time is it?"
“Almost midnight, I didn't know you were trying to stay up for me. I went to a meeting with a bunch of other teachers, it went late." Sunny told him.
He laid down on the bed, and stretched out the kink in his neck with a groan.
“Sorry." Sunny added.
“It's fine, I probably should have been reading in bed instead." Starflight replied.
Sunny cuddled in next to him, and sighed. “I love this."
“So do I"
“Moon told me that she was happy for us, because there were many bad timelines where we aren't together."
Starflight looked over at her. “Many?"
“Out of infinite timelines, many seems like a varying number. During the point where I didn't know what to do, Moon had visions of bad timelines, about us being apart, where bad things happen. She didn't go to far into it, but I could see her shudder at the thought."
What is she talking about? Michael, can you see the future?
Yes, but I tend to avoid doing that, I focus on the present, because I can tell what's going to happen from experience.
So, you can see the bad timelines?
There are some, not as many as the good ones, but I could tell that you two were happier together. You could have been happy with Fatespeaker, but you would never be truly happy without Sunny. There are very few timelines where Sunny is with anybody else. I can count only twelve, out of an infinite amount. Out of the bad timelines, most of them end with you both dead, so I am very happy with this outcome.
Both of us?
I don't think you would want me to go into those timelines. The multiverse, where timelines can become reality, but not here, has many splits and branches where things go right, and where things go horribly wrong. I have seen sub-dimensions where Pyrria falls into a darkness, filled with war and terror. Where the titans rise, and are unhindered as they destroy everything. That is the way of time, and the multiverse, and I do my best to guard the main dimension, and help it to the best outcome.
Starflight blinked. “Wow."
“What?"
“Was Michael talking to you?"
“No, what did he say?"
“I can barely understand it myself, there is a multiverse out there…"
“He's mentioned that before."
“Yeah, but there are also sub-dimensions, that are like this one. Apparently, some of them turned out, not as well as this one."
“Oh"
“And Michael wants to help us achieve the best possible future, without looking into the future and letting it affect his decisions. He said he uses experience to guide others."
“Ugh, that just hurts my head."
“Let's change the subject, I talked to Bloodshed."
“You did? How'd it go?"
“Good, I found out he has a crush on someone, and Michael helped to get them together."
“Who?"
“Mindreader"
Sunny gasped, and smiled. “Aw"
“I think I need to chat with him more, he only came here because she was here. So he still refuses to talk to others, but I think I can warm him up eventually."
Sunny nuzzled him. “You can do it."
“They did look good together. She looked like she really cared for him."
“Doesn't he have a sister here?"
“Lucidmind refuses to talk to him, or even look at him. I don't know why though."
Sunny sighed. “I heard there was a fight today."
“Really?"
“Not a real one, more of an argument. Silver and Nightshade had to be separated for now."
Working on that, Silver actively believes that all Leafwings are horrible, and she hates them. She has her reason, and Nightshade refuses to apologize for something she and her tribe had no part of, which is understandable. Don't worry about it.
Sunny closed her eyes, and relaxed against him. “I'm tired, let's sleep."
Starflight smiled. “Goodnight Sun."
“We making this a thing, cause I want to make it a thing."
“Sure, why not."
“Goodnight Star."
