- Motor check prior to operation.
- Drill bit jet size check
- Operation of the bypass valve
- While tripping into the hole, circulation should be broken every 20 to 30 stands to keep the motor running freely.
- At total depth and before drilling circulation is begun and set to close the bypass valve and start the motor and bit turning. This is to establish off bottom no load circulation/ stand pipe pressure. (expect 50-100psi). this correlation will determine the device is functioning properly. It will also prime the oil in the bearings.
- The motor imparts a left hand torque to the bit. Once drilling starts and orientation is set then any change in the standpipe pressure will indicate a change in nit torque and a turn in the bent sub.
- If the bit generates excessive torque the motor will be stalled and the standpipe gauge will be unresponsive to additional weight on bit. To restart pick up the motor. At this point mud if flowing between the rotor or stator. Re-orientation.
- When tripping out the bypass valve allows the string to drain. If a bent sub is used rotating out (with the rotary table) may be hazardous.
