Getting Started

What is SellMac and how does it work?
SellMac is a Techable-owned trade-in service that buys used Apple devices for cash or store credit. You get an instant online quote, ship your device free with a prepaid UPS label, and receive payment after inspection completes.
Is SellMac legit and safe to use?
Yes — SellMac is operated by Techable, an established Illinois-based BBB A+ Accredited electronics refurbisher with 50,000+ sellers served. Every transaction includes trackable shipping and a secure data wipe on every device, and you can decline a revised offer if the inspection differs from your description.
Which Apple devices does SellMac buy?
SellMac accepts MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, iMac Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, iPhone, iPad (all variants), Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro — including older, discontinued, and damaged units.
Do I need an account to get a quote?
No account is required to get a quote or sell a device. You can optionally create a free account after checkout to track multiple trade-ins and view payout history in one place.
How long does the entire process take from quote to payment?
Most customers complete the full process in 5–10 business days: instant quote (minutes), shipping (2–4 days via UPS Ground), inspection (typically 1–3 business days after arrival), and payout (1–3 business days depending on payment method).

Pricing & Quotes

How does SellMac determine the value of my device?
Your quote is calculated from four factors: model and configuration (year, chip, RAM, storage), cosmetic condition grade (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor), functional test results, and current market demand. Choosing Techable Store Credit adds a 10% bonus to your payout.
How much is my MacBook Pro worth?
MacBook Pro trade-in values range up to $4,150 for a fully specced 16" M4 Max with 128GB RAM and 8TB storage in Excellent condition. Get an instant model-specific quote at sellmac.com/sell-macbook-pro/.
How much can I sell my iPhone for?
iPhone trade-in values reach up to $950 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max (1TB) in Excellent condition. Get an instant quote for your model at sellmac.com/sell-iphone/.
What are the four condition grades?
Excellent (100% of base price) means like-new with no cosmetic damage. Good (85%) covers minor scratches with full functionality. Fair (70%) reflects visible wear or minor screen/body damage. Poor (40%) applies to significant damage or functional issues.
Does SellMac buy broken or damaged devices?
Yes — SellMac buys devices in any condition, including cracked screens, liquid damage, dead batteries, and units that won't power on. Select "Has issues" during the quote flow to get an accurate offer for non-working devices.
How long is my quote valid?
Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of creation. If your device isn't received within 30 days, the quote automatically expires and you'll need to request a new one (prices may have changed).
Will I get the exact amount quoted?
You receive the exact quoted amount as long as the device matches the condition you described. If our inspection finds discrepancies, we send a revised offer with photos — you can accept the updated offer, or decline it and have the device returned at your cost for return shipping.
Can I get a higher payout?
Yes — three ways to maximize your payout: choose Techable Store Credit for a 10% bonus, ship within 24 hours of label generation for a 5% shipping bonus, and ensure your device is fully functional with iCloud signed out. Bonuses stack for up to 15% extra value.
Why is SellMac's quote higher than Apple Trade-In?
SellMac typically pays 20–40% more than Apple Trade-In because we refurbish and resell devices directly through our parent company Techable, rather than recycling them. We also accept more models, including units Apple won't take.

Shipping & Packing

Does SellMac offer free shipping?
Yes — every trade-in includes a free prepaid UPS Ground shipping label, emailed to you within minutes of accepting your quote. There are no shipping fees and no hidden costs.
How do I pack my device safely?
Wrap the device in 2–3 inches of bubble wrap or foam on all sides, place it inside a sturdy double-walled box with at least 2 inches of padding around every edge, and seal with packing tape. For laptops, remove any loose accessories and never ship in only an envelope or padded mailer.
Do I need the original Apple box to ship my device?
The original box is not required. A sturdy cardboard shipping box with proper padding (bubble wrap, foam, or air pillows) protects your device equally well. Including the original box can slightly increase your offer if it's in good condition.
Where do I drop off my package?
Drop your packaged device at any UPS Store, UPS Access Point, or UPS drop box. You can also schedule a free home pickup directly through ups.com using the tracking number from your label.
Is my shipment insured?
Yes — every SellMac shipping label includes UPS tracking and standard UPS Ground coverage (up to $100). For higher-value devices, contact [email protected] before shipping to declare additional value. Using a different label or carrier voids coverage.
How long does shipping take?
UPS Ground delivery to our Illinois facility takes 2–4 business days from most U.S. locations. You can track your shipment in real time at sellmac.com/track/ using your quote ID.
Who is responsible if my device is damaged in transit?
You are responsible for packing your device safely. SellMac inspects devices based on the condition they arrive in and cannot be held liable for damage caused during transit. Proper packing — bubble wrap plus a sturdy box — virtually eliminates transit damage.
Can I ship multiple devices in one box?
Yes, you can ship multiple devices in one box as long as each is individually wrapped and quoted separately. For 5 or more devices, use our Bulk program at sellmac.com/bulk-sell-mac/ for dedicated processing.
What if I lose my shipping label?
Email [email protected] with your quote ID and we'll resend the label promptly. Labels can also be re-downloaded from your tracking page at sellmac.com/track/.

Preparing Your Device

How do I prepare my MacBook for trade-in?
Four steps: (1) back up your data with Time Machine or iCloud, (2) sign out of iCloud / Apple ID and turn off Find My, (3) erase the Mac via System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings, and (4) wipe the exterior with a soft cloth.
How do I prepare my iPhone or iPad for trade-in?
Back up to iCloud or your computer, then go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings. This automatically signs you out of iCloud, removes Activation Lock, and restores factory defaults.
Do I need to wipe my device before sending it?
Wiping is recommended but not required. SellMac performs a secure factory-level wipe on every device before resale or recycling. However, you must sign out of iCloud and disable Find My to avoid Activation Lock.
How do I turn off Find My iPhone or Find My Mac?
On iPhone/iPad: Settings → [Your Name] → Find My → Find My iPhone → toggle off. On Mac: System Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Find My Mac → toggle off. You'll be asked to enter your Apple ID password.
What happens if I forget to disable Find My?
If Find My is still active when we receive the device, we'll email you instructions to remotely disable it via icloud.com/find. The device cannot be processed or paid out until Activation Lock is removed.
Can SellMac access my data?
No — we cannot access your data. Every device undergoes a secure multi-pass wipe before refurbishment, and physical drive destruction is available on request for high-security needs.
Do I need to include the charger or accessories?
No accessories are required — we only need the device itself. Including the original charger, cables, or box is optional but appreciated and may slightly increase your offer.

Payment & Payouts

What payment methods does SellMac offer?
SellMac offers six payout methods: Techable Store Credit (+10% bonus), PayPal, Zelle, Bank Transfer (ACH), Venmo, and mailed check. PayPal and Zelle are typically the fastest, generally arriving 1–3 business days after inspection.
How long does payment take after I ship?
Inspection generally takes 1–3 business days after your device arrives, and payment is issued 1–3 business days after inspection completes. PayPal and Zelle are typically the fastest; bank transfer takes 2–3 days; checks take 5–7 days via mail.
What is the Techable Store Credit bonus?
Choosing Techable Store Credit instead of cash adds a 10% bonus to your payout, redeemable at techable.com toward certified-refurbished Apple devices. A $500 cash quote becomes $550 in store credit.
What is the 5% shipping bonus?
Ship your device within 24 hours of receiving your prepaid label and SellMac adds a 5% bonus to your final payout. The bonus stacks with the 10% Techable Credit bonus for up to 15% extra.
Can I change my payout method after submitting?
Yes — email [email protected] with your quote ID before inspection completes and we'll update your payout method at no charge.
Are there any fees deducted from my payout?
No — there are zero fees, zero shipping costs, and zero hidden deductions. The amount you're quoted (or the revised offer if condition differs) is exactly what you receive.
What happens if my device fails inspection?
If the actual condition differs from your description, we send a revised offer with detailed inspection photos. You can accept the updated offer, or decline it and have the device returned to you — return shipping is paid by the customer.

Tracking & Support

How do I track my order?
Visit sellmac.com/track/ and enter your quote ID (format: SM-XXXXX). You'll see a 7-stage timeline: Quote Created → Label Generated → In Transit → Delivered → Inspected → Payment Sent → Complete, with live UPS package location.
How do I contact SellMac support?
Email [email protected] or call (800) 311-5990. Our team typically responds the same business day. Business hours are Monday–Friday 9 AM–6 PM CT and Saturday 10 AM–4 PM CT.
Can I cancel after I've shipped my device?
Yes — email [email protected] before inspection completes to cancel. If you'd like the device returned, return shipping is paid by the customer. Once payment has been issued, the transaction cannot be reversed.
What if my device gets lost in shipping?
If your UPS-tracked package shows no movement for 7+ days, email [email protected] with your quote ID. We'll file a UPS claim on your behalf using the carrier insurance built into every prepaid label.
I haven't received my payment — what do I do?
If several business days have passed since your inspection completed and payment hasn't arrived, email [email protected] with your quote ID. Most delays are due to incorrect PayPal, Zelle, or bank details and are resolved promptly once corrected.

Bulk & Business

Does SellMac buy from businesses, schools, and IT departments?

How many devices qualify as a bulk order?
Bulk pricing and dedicated support kick in at 5+ devices. Orders of 50+ devices receive a dedicated account manager, and 100+ devices qualify for free on-site pickup nationwide.
Can I upload a spreadsheet of my devices?
Yes — submit a CSV with serial numbers, models, and conditions through the Bulk request form. We typically return a consolidated quote for all devices within a few business days.
Do you offer NDAs or custom data destruction certificates?
