Old or broken to one person is still useful to the next. That's the whole reason this exists.

A college kid figured that out by accident in 2009. The business grew up around it.

Why this matters

The world throws out 62 million tons of electronics a year. Most of it still works.

That's the part that bothers us. Working iPhones in junk drawers. MacBooks at the bottom of moving boxes. Devices headed for a landfill that have years left in them. Every one we resell is one less in the pile, and one more check in the pocket of someone who didn't know what their old tech was actually worth. (Source: UN Global E-Waste Monitor.)

~80% of that e-waste is never properly recycled

How SellMac works

Three steps. The number you see is the number you get.

Most buyback companies quote one price online, then quietly cut it once the device is in their warehouse. We rebuilt the flow so the offer holds, and so you can see what's happening at every stage between your hands and ours.

1

Get an instant quote

Pick your device, answer a few honest questions about its condition, and you'll see a real offer in under 60 seconds. No email gate, no sales call, no "speak to a representative."

2

Ship it free

We email you a prepaid UPS Ground label. Drop the device at any UPS counter. You can track it the whole way to our Illinois facility.

3

Get paid your way

Our team inspects the device and confirms the offer. Pick how you want the money: PayPal, Zelle, bank transfer, check, Venmo, or Techable store credit with a 10% bonus on top.

Is SellMac legit?

Yes — and here's how you know.

SellMac is operated by Techable, an Apple device refurbisher that's been in business since 2016, headquartered in Illinois. Your device shows up at a real building and gets handled by a real team. Once it's wiped, tested, and refurbished, it goes back out into the U.S. market — used by another student, parent, or small business who needed an affordable Mac. Nothing gets shipped overseas. Nothing gets dumped.

  • Owned and operated by Techable, an established Apple refurbisher
  • BBB accredited with an A+ rating
  • Inspections happen in our Illinois facility, not a warehouse you'll never see
  • Certified data wipe on every device before resale or recycling
  • Six payout methods, including a 10% bonus on Techable store credit
  • Live tracking from the moment your label is generated to the day you're paid

A note from the founder

I got into this because I got sick of how the used tech space worked. Lowball offers, fake friendliness, support that disappeared the second they had your device. I'd been on the wrong end of it more than once.

The first MacBook I ever resold was in 2009. Mine died mid-semester in college and I couldn't afford a new one, so I bought a beat-up 2009 MacBook Pro, fixed what I could, and a few months later sold it for a profit. Then I did it again. That side hustle paid my way through school.

What stuck with me wasn't the money. It was that a device someone called "old" or "broken" still mattered to the next person. That idea turned into Techable, and SellMac is the front door — a way to send your device somewhere it'll actually be respected, and to get paid what it's worth without the runaround.

Common questions

What people ask before they sell

Who owns SellMac?
SellMac is owned and operated by Techable, an Apple device refurbisher that's been in business since 2016, headquartered in Illinois. Same team, same building, same standards — SellMac is just the front door for people who want to sell their device instead of buy a refurbished one.
Where is SellMac located?
All inspections, testing, data wipes, and payouts are handled at our facility in Illinois, U.S.A. Devices are not shipped overseas. Customers anywhere in the U.S. can sell to SellMac and ship in for free with a prepaid UPS Ground label.
How does SellMac decide what my device is worth?
Pricing is based on the model, the year, the configuration (chip, RAM, storage), and the condition you report. The quote you see online is the offer. If something changes during inspection — like the screen has a crack you didn't mention — we send photos and a clear breakdown of why before anything moves forward.
Is it safe to sell my Mac or iPhone online?
It is, as long as you're shipping to a real, accredited business. Every device that arrives at our Illinois facility goes through a certified data wipe before it's resold or recycled. You can also wipe and sign out of iCloud yourself before sending — we walk you through how on the how it works page.
How long does payout take?
Most payouts go out within 1–3 business days of your device arriving and clearing inspection. You pick how you get paid: PayPal, Zelle, bank transfer, check, Venmo, or Techable store credit (which gets a 10% bonus on top of the offer).
What if my device is broken?
We still want it. Cracked screens, dead batteries, water damage, won't power on — none of that disqualifies a device. The price will be lower than a working unit, but you'll see exactly what it's worth before you ship. Even an iPhone that's been to the bottom of a pool has some value.
