Catcliffe Demon?

Just a quick post to note that Gareth Bayer has split his blog up, and railway stuff is now at the new address of http://catcliffedemon.wordpress.com/ and we’ve now updated the blogroll to reflect the new address. (He still has an anime and music themed blog on the old lastarial address.)

With some great photography and the possibility of a rather nice layout on the way it should be well worth watching.

 Wonder if he’s built those boards yet…  😉 😀

Week in the UK??

Apologies in advance for going off on a tangent, I promise to stay off the subject of the UK’s railways on this blog as much as possible, mainly due to it having very little to do with RS Tower! If you’re only after US-based info then don’t click for more info and move on to another post….  😉 Continue reading

Another show outing…

Neil Rogers’ “Oakdale” and “Dale Yard” modules attended the Shaftesbury and Gillingham show at the weekend. Oakdale being used as the layout and Dale Yard being split to form a pair of fiddle yards.

The layout was operated ‘all sound’ for the weekend which seems to have gone down well with the public attending.

Neil has posted some images on his fotopic site – which you can find here.

Normal service will be resumed shortly…

I can only apologise for the lack of updates, but everyday life and finally a short couple of months involving occasional sunshine have put getting out higher on my priority list than working on bits for the layout!!

Never mind, we are still plugging on and making progress, in the last couple of months we’ve started work on the landforms, finished the last of the tracklaying (including all the droppers to the bus wires,) started ballasting.

Pics from the last couple of work sessions are now online at the layout’s fotopic collection here: http://modelrailpics.fotopic.net/c735837.html

New connections at RS Tower

Our 30th June work session saw a short length of extra track installed next to the diamond…

Commute-tastic!

A surprisingly interesting part of operations at Exeter was fitting in a service of short, fast passenger trains amidst the long slow freights, in our 70’s mode at Exeter we had Amtrak and Chicago RTA (with CNW cars) bilevel push pulls, plus the Blackhawk RDC set.

Metra push-pull at Elmhurst IL, Sep 2000

So, the target now is to complete a modern equivalent. Unfortunately Kato seems very reluctant to offer their superb F40PH in more modern paint…keep reading to see what we can do about it…

Show Images…

As well as the images already linked to on the RMWeb site (see previous post) here are a few more – if anyone else has images that we can use or link to then please leave me a comment and i’ll add a link in.

My handful of pics of the layout are now online at the layout construction collection on fotopic: http://modelrailpics.fotopic.net/c735837.html

Show’s over, move along now…

There are a couple of pics of RS Tower in this thread on RMWeb, including a couple of Neil’s rather cool sound equipped SP RSD15’s. Pics are by one of the guys off the Matford layout (see link at the top of that thread for their layout) – the middle shot shows Santa Fe power (SD45+SD45+SD40) from a westbound freight that’s holding as the SP power curves across the diamond in front of him.

I’ll post a few more pics tonight, but honestly didn’t get chance to shoot much, mostly too busy playing trains! Keep reading for a few thoughts on how the weekend went and some of what we learned… Continue reading

Blimey! The darn thing works!

Well, it was getting dark in our corner of the hall as we were finishing off setting up, but just to prove that (a) the darn thing works and (b) long trains work here’s a quick vid I made just before going home. Power is an SD26 (Atlas), SD24 (Atlas) and SD45-2 (Genesis) lashup with a loooong train made up of auto parts empties and finished auto’s headed West, trailed by a long cut of piggyback flats. Enjoy!

PS – I’ll try and provide some better lit stuff tomorrow!

Cornfield Meet

Not had a go at embedding a YouTube vid on here yet, so here’s a bit of an experiment.

This link was passed on by Leigh and is cab footage of a BNSF wreck a year or two back. As the loco approaches the siding for a meet, the oncoming train which should have held on the main runs the red light. All five crew on the two trains survived although they were injured.

Scaaaary stuff…
