SCU students, join us on April 13th-14th for SCU's first ever game jam!
Game jams are a fantastic way to learn more about video game development and also show off your creativity! Game jams and game development is much more than just programming as it takes a team of artists, musicians, game designers, and much more to create a game!
For this game jam, you and a team of 2 to 6 students will have to design a Roblox game in 24 hours based on a theme from scratch!
For more information, visit roblox.scuacm.com
All participants will receive a free virtual Roblox item for participating!
ADVICE
Keep scope small
As cool as it would be to create the next Minecraft or GTA, try to keep the scope of your project small as you only have limited time to complete the project! Try to get a game loop down and from there expand the game.
Spend time on ideas, communicating with your team
Teams fall apart because the vision wasn’t clearly defined, or the team hasn’t been effectively communicating about what needs to be done, and by whom. Communication is key!
Iterate on ideas
Usually in game development, the final product isn't exactly the same as the initial idea. Don't be afraid to playtest and experiment with new ideas--you never know what you might make!
Don’t skimp on the Devpost
At the end of the day, the judges’ only exposure to your project will be your Devpost and game (along with any mentoring they give you). You could create the best project at the game jam, but without an effective DevPost to clearly communicate why it’s so great, it’s going to get overlooked. So make sure to put some effort into the Devpost!
