Movie Nights

As I’m writing this, it is October 30th, the day before Halloween. For those of you who don’t know, that particular date holds special significance in the movie The Crow. They call it Devil’s Night. Every year, on Devil’s Night, I will watch that movie. It’s been a tradition for a number of years in my house. It is only one such tradition we have in my house with watching certain movies or shows on certain days.

On Christmas every year, we will watch Die Hard.

On June 6th (the anniversary of D-day), we’ll watch either Saving Private Ryan or the first two episodes of Band of Brothers. All three, if we have the time for them

We don’t do it every year, because we sometimes have other things to do, but we try to watch Independence Day on…. well… Independence Day.

And, I haven’t done it yet (it’s too late to do it this year), but I may start watching Tombstone on October 26th, the anniversary of the gunfight at the OK Corral.

What about you? Do you have any movies that you watch on certain days?

A number of you have suggested doing a “who would win in a fight between this Marvel character and this DC character. So far, I’ve refrained from doing one of those for one simple reason: it’s probably been done before.

Marvel and DC have had numerous crossovers between their characters over the years. I will admit, though, that every crossover is the same (all the ones that I’ve ever read have been anyways). The heroes meet, they fight to a draw (you know, because neither company wants to admit the other’s character is better/more powerful), then realize they should be working together instead of at cross purposes, and the team up against the bad guys. So, at some point in the future, I may do some of them. For now, I’m going to stick to what I’m doing.

Let’s get on to this week’s matchups. The first one was suggested by the always awesome (even when she’s being the villain) Jaded. Continue reading
